Book Review-A Dead Daughter (Jessica Huntington Desert Cities Mystery) (Volume 3)-Anna Celeste Burke

Monday, July 11, 2016

This is the third book in this series I have read and I am eagerly awaiting the fourth! All these books can be read as stand alone but I suggest you read them in order-you will not regret it. Bernadette, one of my favorite characters in this series has a book about her as well--it is the prequel to all these books. You will find my review of this book at the end of August. Everyone should have a Bernadette in their lives especially if you are among the 1% that live in California and are spoiled, rich and totally unhappy as all the daughters in a Dead Daughter are, as are most of their mothers!

Jessica and the Cat Pack really get into a series of mishaps--Jessica is still a magnet for trouble and is still using her American Express Black Card. She is trying to get over her shopping addiction---and is making some headway. Addiction is what is prevalent in this book. But who is addicted and to what--and who helped them get that way? It is also about unscrupulous business people who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.

About the Book: (from Amazon)

Murder and mayhem takes Jessica Huntington to new heights—literally and figuratively—when Libby Van Der Woert wants to meet at the top of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. The disturbed daughter of Jessica’s wealthy clients, Libby says she has information about her friend, Shannon Donnelly. Another mixed-up daughter of the rich and famous, Shannon Donnelly has not been heard from in over a week and her pricey car was abandoned in a Cathedral City parking lot. Trouble begins the moment Jessica greets Libby in the Mt. San Jacinto Wilderness. Wild, manic, and sure she’s being followed, Libby’s got a gun. All hell breaks loose when Libby’s Beverly Hills shrink shows up with a gun of his own. What’s up with the missing and misguided daughters of wealth and privilege in Dr. Carr’s care? Jessica and her Cat Pack friends go toe-to-toe with more well-heeled heels in A DEAD DAUGHTER. Getting to the bottom of things Jessica-Huntington-style, sets off a whirlwind tour of fashionable enclaves, upscale rehab clinics, shops, restaurants and other haute hangouts. Can she and her friends outwit and outlive ‘la crème de la crud’ wreaking havoc in paradise?

About the Author: (from Amazon)

Life is an extravaganza of unpredictable dimension and proportion: figuring out how to hang tough and make the most of the wild ride is the challenge.

On my way to Oahu, to join the rock musician and high school drop-out I married in Tijuana, I was nabbed by the police as a runaway. When the police let me go and the rock band broke up, my husband and I had to find another way to survive. Our next stop: Disney World where we trained to be chefs, courtesy of the Walt Disney World University. A GED for my husband, and many more years of education landed us in academia at The Ohio State University. Retired now from my role as a professor in social work and behavioral science, I have picked up a long-time interest in writing fiction. I'm still married to the same sweet guy, and live with him in the Palm Springs area. In addition to reading and writing fiction, I enjoy painting, hiking, hanging out with my handsome husband and tending to my Siamese kitties.

I write the Jessica Huntington Desert Cities Mystery series, set here in and around Palm Springs, CA. As Jessica Huntington, amateur sleuth and calamity magnet, will tell you, the Sonoran Desert is a beautiful setting in which to ponder life's mysteries while enjoying the delights of the desert resort communities. A Dead Husband, Book 1, and A Dead Sister, Book 2, out now. Book 3, A DEAD DAUGHTER out soon. Look for Book 4, A DEAD MOTHER, in 2015. ALSO OUT NOW: LOVE, A FOOT ABOVE THE GROUND. This sweet romance is narrated by Jessica Huntington as she shares her friend, Bernadette's, tale of love, loss, and hope..."a real happily ever after story."

Oh wow...this a twist to the usual addiction stories. I like how they can be standalone stories!

As the father of two girls, this is one I would probably shy away from just from the title. Don't want to even think about it!

Wow! Thanks so much for this terrific review of A Dead Daughter. Murder & mayhem Jessica Huntington style--a little over the top, even after tumbling off the peak above Palm Springs. Who needs the use of both arms to shop or catch the bad guys? LOL! Anna
