If you read A Dog With Two Tales or read my review -that was the prequel to this series. I just knew I was going to love it and I do!! Ivy and her dog Keats have moved to a farm, well kind of a hobby farm. She is going to try to turn the house into a hotel where people an come and really relax. This farm just happens to be in the small town where she grew up--and like all small towns--people love to gossip. Every body always knows every one elses business.

Keats is an instinctual herding dog and smart as a whip!! Of course that herding instinct gets Ivy in a bit of trouble when he herds chickens back from Ivy's property to the property where they belong. Lloyd, the town dog catcher, was told and he came to give Ivy a ticket----When Ivy and Keats wemt for a walk around her property later on--they found Lloyd dead.

Afraid that the fact that a murder was committed woukd hurt her chances at having a shot at a hotel--she decides that she and Keats are going to investigate since her old high school boyfriend who is now the chief of police doesn't seem to be getting anywhere fast enough for her. She also had the help of her city friend Jill--who really knew how to cook and a couple of her family members (who had secrets of her own).

Lots of twists and turns as well as some laughs along the way as the murderer is finally found. It kind of shocked me, I certainly did not expect who it turned out to be. I definitely will be reading the rest of this series!!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

Turning a hobby farm into a country inn is a piece of cake compared to solving a murder.

Ivy Galloway may not know an alpaca from a llama, but nothing’s going to stop her from pursuing her dream of opening a farm-themed inn in her hometown of Clover Grove. Not after what she went through to flee the big city with her brilliant rescue dog, Keats.

When Keats finds someone pushing up daisies in Ivy's rye field, however, murder puts a blight on her plans to welcome guests. Worse, Ivy's high school boyfriend—now the chief of police—considers her a suspect.

To clear her name, Ivy starts digging up clues. The former HR exec is no stranger to interviewing, and Keats is a dog who loves a job. Every step takes them closer to a secret that could rock her ambitions to the core and put her big, quirky family at risk.

Solving the case is the only option... especially when the killer strikes even closer to home.

About the Author: (from Amazon)

Ellen Riggs was obsessed with animals of all kinds from an early age and really wanted to become a veterinarian. Her sketchy math skills suggested she'd be far better off WRITING about animals.

Visit Ellen's website at https://ellenriggs.com to sign up for her newsletter. Some people say she's a hoot and she thinks it's a compliment. She knows her pet photos are quite impressive for someone so technology-challenged.

Ellen has written books under other pen names, but the Bought-the-Farm cozy mystery series is turning out to be the most fun. As a bonus, she can have all the pets she wants on her fictional hobby farm. In real life, she's limited to a couple of dogs and an imaginary cat.
