Muriel Bright is a witch and an amazing cook as well! Ophelia, Muriel's sidekick, has a few witchy tricks up her sleeve as well! And we can't forget her two cats--they are definitely characters! They do a cooking show together and people LOVE it. Of course when the lights go out--then go back on--a stage guy is found electrocuted. He really was not a very nice guy--but really--

Muriel has to use a magic trick to calm everyone down--seems she can stretch time--and managed to calm everyone down by placing dolls under each of their seats in the space of a couple of seconds.

Muriel senses that this isn't just a 'normal' murder or accident. She knows that there are other witches behind it--and they don't really know what they are doing. A weeping woman keeps appearing to her in her dreams and when awake--but is always grabbed back by a hand.

It takes a bit and a lot of twists and turns and also lots of laughter as Muriel and friends track down the perpetrator.

As with all Anna Celeste Burke's novels--there are some delicious recipes at the end!

I received an ARC from the author for my enjoyment and possible review.

About the Book: (from Amazon)

Book 5 of 8 of the Witches Academy Series Muriel Bright, America’s latest foodie channel sweetheart, is a real charmer who’s always discovering new uses for her magic outside the kitchen.

Muriel has plenty of experience using her skills as a healer, cooking up comfort and well-being one delicious treat at a time. When there’s a murder behind the scenes at her top-rated cooking show, Muriel has no choice but to draw on her other extraordinary talents. As Muriel takes up sleuthing, she finds that her abilities are quickly put to the test.

Despite what the detective assigned to the case may believe, this is no ordinary murder. Powerful forces are at work, and Muriel is determined to oppose them. As a graduate of the Witches Academy, Muriel is a force to be reckoned with, and it's her calling to keep the darkness at bay. After getting to know the attractive detective better, Muriel would also like to keep him alive. In order to do that, Muriel gives a whole new meaning to the use of smoke and mirrors as she relies on them to deceive some and reveal the truth to others. Can she solve the murder and stop the killing without tipping her hand to the police?

A waitress attending night school at the academy discovers, along with the gift of magic, she has royal blood flowing through her veins. America’s latest foodie channel sweetheart is a real charmer, who discovers not all the magic happens in the kitchen. Clair struggles with taking control of her magical powers until she meets a guy who really needs her help. A beautiful witch, empowered with the gift of creating strong magic spells since childhood, now refuses to use them––until her friend’s murder changes everything. An investigative reporter’s strange visions force her to really use her powers. When a rival tries to mess with her magic a witch must find a way to rekindle her flame.

What do eight enchanted witches have in common? They’ve all attended the Witches Academy of Sorcery in the Big Easy, the foremost school of magic in the world. From coast to coast, each of these bewitched women will work at becoming who they are meant to be, using their powers to the fullest capacity.

Life is an extravaganza! figuring out how to hang tough and make the most of the wild ride is the challenge.

On my way to Oahu to join the rock musician and high school drop-out I had met in San Diego and married in Tijuana, I was nabbed by the police as a runaway. When the police let me go and the rock band broke up, my husband and I had to find another way to survive. Our next stop: Disney World where we trained to be chefs, courtesy of the Walt Disney World University. A GED for my husband and many more years of education landed us in academia at The Ohio State University. Retired now from my role as a professor in social work and behavioral science, I have picked up a long-time interest in writing fiction. I'm still married to the same sweet guy and live with him in the Palm Springs area. In addition to reading and writing fiction, I enjoy painting, hiking, hanging out with my handsome husband and tending to my Siamese kitties.

An award-winning and bestselling author I enjoy snooping into life's mysteries with fun, fiction, & food—California style! My books include the Jessica Huntington Desert Cities Mystery series set in the Coachella Valley near Palm Springs, the Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery series set on California’s Central Coast, and The Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery series set in Orange County, California--the OC. Coming soon: The Misadventures of Betsy Stark also set here in the Coachella Valley. Find out more at http://www.desertcitiesmystery.com.

No, but I believe that there are people who truly believe that they are witches. If they're not hurting anybody, let them be. A cooking witch sounds like a great idea for a book!

I have to say if I go by the Dictionary meaning of Witch, a woman thought to have magic powers, especially evil ones, popularly depicted as wearing a black cloak and pointed hat and flying on a broomstick, than my answer to Do I believe in Witches would be no. No one flies on a broomstick, to my knowledge. Anna Celeste Burke is a good Author and her books are a great quick read for me.

Quite frankly, I say never say never. I’ve a close and dear friend who is Wiccan. This person knows me and my beliefs and would never seek to force me to change. It is what it is. I’ve seen and sensed things ahead of others and the news. I’m not a witch. lol. But I believe anything can help. There are healers among us......and I love anything and everything Anna Celeste Burke writes. I’m looking forward to this!

I believe there are people who practice witchcraft and it is dangerous in the sense of distracting people from God who says to avoid all such practices. I do think I might occasionally enjoy humorous books about witches in an imaginary type world as this seems to be.
