Book Review - Vampire of Macondo – Deborah Dupre

Wednesday, February 6, 2013

This book is very hard to read and even harder to believe. However, since I live very near NYC I know for a fact that we were lied to about the air quality after the 9/11 attack. I remember thinking at the time that the stench which actually could be smelled in my town had to be bad for you. But the powers that be kept telling us that the air was just fine—A LIE or perhaps a distortion of the truth? I worked down there and the one thing I noticed was the birds had all left—not even a pigeon. First responders and residents who lived within wind distance—well lets just say—lots of people are still sick or getting sick!

Deborah Dupres has bravely put together a referenced book about the BP Gulf Oil Spill which tells it like it is. Oh we were all told about the marine mammals and fish who were dying—but not why—nor were we told about the effects on human beings. As if the oil spill, which may still be going on today if I am reading this correctly, was not bad enough--BP used a totally corrosive, carcinogenic chemical to attempt to clean up the spill. Unfortunately this particular chemical is stored in the fatty tissues of fish. Have you ever heard of the food chain? Well—the microscopic things that fish eat are saturated with this chemical—the fish eat the microscopic things—other fish eat those fish—even bigger fish eat those fish—then people eat those fish at their dinner table—not only in the Gulf region but where ever that fish is sold. Just the other day I read an article in the NY Times about more then a couple people in NY getting a strange type “food poisoning”—guess where the fish came from! I wish I had saved the url from that article-unfortunately I didn’t.

Meanwhile the air quality in the Gulf region is keeping people sick and causing pre mature deaths. It will take many generations for this chemical to MAYBE work it’s way out of our environment. Why aren’t we hearing about the human toll this oil spill has caused and is still causing—and why aren’t they getting any help!!

I put up a guest post by Deborah Dupres yesterday-I suggest you go read it-there is a giveaway attached there as well for a $100 Visa GC. PLEASE click on the Book Trailer Link below-

I remember the Gulf Oil Spill! I had no idea air quality was affected like most people I guess I thought it was "all taken care of and cleaned up".

I remember hearing about the Gulf Oil Spill! I never thought it would have affected us through the air quality and of course they never mentioned it. This is a great post! Thanks for sharing with us.

This book sounds very interesting. I, like others did not realize that the oil spill affected the air quality and could make people that ill. It's kind of sad to think how much the government really does hide from us. It's even more scary because it seems to be a silent killer.

Thank you so much for the review, Miki! I cannot believe that the government is not doing its job on this. Unbelievable.

The things that have been done to our environment and how we will (and our children, and children's children...) be affected is scary. Sounds like a great read!

Wow, this look like it may be an intense read.

Wow! I have got to read this! I do not doubt the air in NYC was bad, nor do I doubt the problems with the chemicals used to clean up the oil spill in the Gulf. I live 2 hours from Mobile, AL. and heard plenty of stories and complaints about that!

The gulf oil spill was horrendous. It's great that someone is willing to come out and tell the truth. We tend to follow what the media tells us which isn't exactly what happened. Thanks for sharing this awesome book!

I agree that we are never told the entire truth..perhaps because they don't really know what that will be and by the time a "score card" starts forming something else has happened that draws our attention.

That certainly makes me want to a little more investigation. The things they want the public to forget about and just not dive too deeply into is crazy!

The air we breathe is nothing to laugh at. I take this very seriously and hope that with all the tragedies we've had in the past, our air is alright and full of life!!

That looks like an interesting read.

I'm glad more people are speaking up and talking about this. Everything gets brushed aside- and this MATTERS!!
