I happen to really love sauerkraut but up until just the other day I rarely if ever bought it. All I ever saw was either those large bags of it or the cans. If I wasn't about to cook up a pot of stuffed cabbage I would end up throwing most of it away. Being single does have a downside on occasion.

I was walking the aisles of the supermarket just the other day looking longingly at all that sauerkraut--but kept on strolling. I had snagged a bogo on Hebrew National Franks-still had one package frozen in my freezer. I was getting tired of franks and beans (although I do love that!) and really wanted a couple of hot dogs on a bun. I have mustard and ketchup and found a pack of hot dog buns for $1.00. All I was missing was SAUERKRAUT (well onions and relish also but I can live without them).

When out of the corner of my eye I spotted a bin of--could it be--little individual packets of Frank's sauerkraut. I grabbed 2 of them to see if it was any good. PERFECT--one packet was more then enough for 2 hot dogs. Oh HEAVEN--I can now make myself a Reuben or buy one of the stuffed cabbages that they make in the store and heat it up with some added sauerkraut. I'll bet it would be great at a barbecue or any affair where the dishes might require sauerkraut but not every likes it. Or maybe if your family is going on a camping trip and on and on. In other words this delicious kraut in single packets would be great for families and singles alike!

From what I read when I went I searching these packets can be stored in your pantry--no refrigeration needed. Just as an aside-it is not quite as juicy as those bags or cans (a very good thing IMO).

Now to find single packets of diced onions and relish!!!!!!

I like that Frank's have made single serve Sauerkraut! I have always had to waste half the bag. Before it was because no one else ate it and now because I live alone, mostly.

Oh, my I really like the smaller serving packages as those big bags often end up with freezer burn before I can use the entire package when cooking for one or two. Let me tell you it was so hard to learn to scale my cooking back; I cooked for 6-10 when my children lived at home as at least one or two of them had a friend over for dinner every night. I still find myself double and triple batching cookies when I back. LOL
