Does Cantelope Ever Ripen?

I do love fresh fruit. Since I am single I tend to buy it already cut up and in plastic containers like you see above. If I was buying an entire cantelope or honeydew melon I would know how to tell if it was ripe. But buying it the way I did--well--

When I took a piece it was like wood!! No cantelope taste. I was upset but figured maybe if I left it out on my counter with the lid only partially closed--maybe it would ripen? It is working, somewhat--I just hope it does not go bad before it gets ripe enough to eat!

I think, maybe, I will buy the entire melon next time and cut it up myself!!

Has this ever happened to you? What did you do?

It just happened. I usually buy a cantaloupe and cut it up myself. My husband bought a container with some cut up pieces and guess where it ended up? In the garbage. It looked ripe with no green edges but it was hard and no flavor.

I buy precut fruit because I'd never eat a whole melon by myself
