Way back when I was the delegated peraon to grate the horse radish for Passover. You think onions make you cry--try grating horseradish from the actual root! We also used to eat pieces of it at the appropriate times. Well, thankfully, those days are gone. Now we use bottled horseradish. None of the bottled ones ever gave me trouble--they just weren't as strong as homemade! My friends would look on in amazement as I slathered it on gefilte fish with no trouble.

I always try to have a jar of it in my refrigeratir and when I ran out I picked up one from a grocery store that was somehow mixed with mayo--I really don't like mayo. When I was shopping online the other day through Instacart at the Fresh Market I happened to see what looked like plain horseradish in a jar--It was Kelchner's Horse Radish--I put it in the cart along with my favorite gefilte fish-Yuhuda's Sweet along with a couple of salads. I love Fresh Markets salads-espcially their Greek Deluxe premade one!

I decided that I wanted 3 pieces of the gefilte fish with the new horse radish for lunch yesterday. I slathered the horseradish on like I always do---YIKES---I'm very glad I had some water next to me---this is the real thing---and very very strong!! No more slathering for me with this one!! Just a dab or two will do it.

Horseradish can be used in a lot of different things. It is especially good on roast beef sandwiches. On Kelchner's Website you can read other uses--like cocktail sauce for shrinp. I make my own--ketchup and horseradish. I will be boiling up a small cabbage later today and am thinking of putting a small amount in the water to give it a slight kick. I think a tiny amount in chicken soup like I get at Chinese restaurants would be good as well. You can read about this, their company and their other products there One thing for certain--it clears out your sinuses!!!

Do you ever think about using horseradish? If yes, then consider this brand--just remember--just a little bit goes a LONG way!!
