$25 Amazon/PP-1-WW-A Canary in the Canal Georgie Shaw Cozy #8 Anna Celeste Burke-Ends 9/10

Mad Max is throwing an opening party for his new theme park addition. He "requests" that Geogie and her husband attend--then he informs her that she has to wear the hat of public relations--there had to be a catch!! Georgie's police detective husband did not object since a famous Jazz singer would be there and singing for the first time in a long while. She would also be the voice over for the new movie that was coming out.

Their two cats were not pleased that they were being left --Cats can get kind of nutsy when they think you are leaving and they don't think you are supposed to (just ask my cat who tries to trip me at the door!). But off they went. Everything went fine with one or two problems that were fixed immediately. Then the party was at an end. Georgie took a walk out to the patio for a breath of fresh air when she spotted something yellow--she went over to see what it was---there was a body attached!! Then she was run over by a burglar trying to escape.

So--who was murdered? It will take a lot of investigating and plenty of twists and turns and misdirection to discover the truth. I did not guess until it was revealed-and I'll bet neither will you!!

I read this in one sitting--I could not stop--it was that good!! And the 5 recipes at the end will have your mouth watering!!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

Life is humming along nicely for Georgie Shaw and Detective Jack Wheeler until Georgie’s discovery of a dead singer strikes a discordant note. They have a killer to find if they want to stop “Mad” Max Marley’s caterwauling and restore harmony.

Kay Garland, a renowned jazz singer is staging a comeback in Max Marley Studios’ animated feature film JAZZ! Georgie Shaw’s boss, Max, regards the party he’s throwing for Kay as “the social event of the season.” Kay’s a hit, but the party in the Venice Historic Canal District is barely over when Georgie finds a woman’s body in the canal.

The identity of the victim and the fact that she was brutally murdered soon have Max singing the same old tune. Whenever there’s big trouble, he insists that Georgie and her husband Jack investigate. In a Canary in the Canal, it’s Georgie and Jack to the rescue once again—with a little help from their Siamese cats!

Life is an extravaganza! figuring out how to hang tough and make the most of the wild ride is the challenge.

On my way to Oahu to join the rock musician and high school drop-out I had met in San Diego and married in Tijuana, I was nabbed by the police as a runaway. When the police let me go and the rock band broke up, my husband and I had to find another way to survive. Our next stop: Disney World where we trained to be chefs, courtesy of the Walt Disney World University. A GED for my husband and many more years of education landed us in academia at The Ohio State University. Retired now from my role as a professor in social work and behavioral science, I have picked up a long-time interest in writing fiction. I'm still married to the same sweet guy and live with him in the Palm Springs area. In addition to reading and writing fiction, I enjoy painting, hiking, hanging out with my handsome husband and tending to my Siamese kitties.

An award-winning and bestselling author I enjoy snooping into life's mysteries with fun, fiction, & food—California style! My books include the Jessica Huntington Desert Cities Mystery series set in the Coachella Valley near Palm Springs, the Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery series set on California’s Central Coast, and The Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery series set in Orange County, California--the OC. Probably even more so. They are curious and has to know everything going on. Plus, they're amazing hunters.

No I don't, dogs are much more alert and smarter than cats.

I'd like to think that if I were in trouble one of my cats would jump on my attacker, but they're fraidy cats! They usually hide if a stranger is here lol.

I think cats are smart enough but my baby hides whenever anyone comes to the door.

Love to read books with cats (and write them, too). I would love to try this series. Thanks for the chance.

I've never owned a cat so I am not sure if their protective instincts are equal to or superior to that of dogs.

Cats can be very aware. Years ago a neighbours dog came up my driveway and growled at me and my cat, Shades, came flying down the back steps and flew at the dog. The dog ran home yelping with my cat attatched to it's face. Thankfully she was not harmed and came straight home.

So hard for me to say.

A blind cat attack a burglar in his owner's house. Another cat smelled a gas leak and let his owners know about it. I think dogs may work faster, but there are some smart cats.

Jeanna Massman said...

Yes, I think cats can be just as intuitive as dogs.

I'm allergic to cats so I've never owned one and, therefore, can't compare them with dogs. All I know is that my dog is extremely aware of what's going on around her and, for that, I'm grateful.

Yes I do believe cats can be protectors and very intuitive

Thanks for your wonderful review and for sharing my new release with your blog readers. I'm so happy to have a new book out in my Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery Series. I've owned cats and dogs all my life and loved them all! I have dogs in three of my other series. I enjoy writing about their antics and the joy they bring into the lives of my sleuths. Pets are devoted to us in such special ways, I believe that's why so many of us own them. They can certainly get into trouble at times, but I've never laughed harder in my life than when I've watched a pet do something hilariously funny.

Blessings to you, Miki, and to your readers. Anna

Cats are protective. They worry about their humans and try to alert you to dangers. If you are sick or feeling sad, they stay by your side. May not fight for you (never had to test this with our cats), but neither do all dogs. A dog we had when I was young hid in his bed while my brother was trying to get into the house. (He had locked himself out.) The dog didn't even bark.

Kathleen Kendler said...

I think they can. My cats have always known when things are right or good. Whenever I'm sad or sick, they are there to help me however they can. They also miss individuals when they're gone for a while & remember them as if they never left when they return.

Michele Hayes said...

Yes, I think cats are just as aware as dogs are.

Leeza said...

Dogs are more vocal and forceful when they sense threat, but my experience with cats is that they’re equally attentive and observant to threats to those around them. They will intervene.

Meredith W said...

I believe so. I've seen videos where cats see things before they happen and also where they protect people.

diannekc said...

I believe that cats are as protective as dogs. Whenever my cats are on edge or looking very alert and keep looking in a certain direction, I always try to see what looking at.

shortiewarren@hotmail.com said...

I've always had cats and some were protective and some weren't, depends on the personality

Jane said...

Oh yes, cats are indeed protective. Remember the video of the dog that attacked a little boy(in Texas or Florida, I believe) and the family cat came streaking out of the house and tore up the dog, forced it off the property while the mom rescued the little boy? He needed stitches in his arm. That was a rad cat!

cupcake58 said...

I'm not sure my daughter's cat would save her or us. I surmise that she'd either be sleeping or begging for food. I believe my dog would try to protect me though.

teena3940 said...

Yes they can. My daughter has a cat that does it... Thank you,q

While living in Missouri our cat not only alerted us to the presence of snakes; but, would chase them off as well. She even noticed turtles eating raspberries. She was smart, brave, loveable, cuddly AND an ANAZING BODYGUARD! betsypz(at)yahoo(dot)com

Jane Starcher said...

My cats are pretty quick to alert me of things when I am outside with them and my male has stepped between me and a very large dog before, hissing and arching his back. (I picked him up and headed inside so none of us got bit or scratched). :) I believe any of the 3 would try to protect me but dogs are much more aggressive.

Denise said...

I have heard of cats saving their human's life by meowing constantly to alert them about a fire. So, yes. Cats can be just as protective as dogs.

Teddi1961 said...

I absolutely think cats can be just as protective of their owners as dogs. I actually think all "pets" have this ability.

Thank you for the review and allowing the chance of the giveaway!

I think both(dogs and cats) would come to the aid of their owner if they loved them enough. And I truly believe they can sense danger.

Miranda Bly said...

Yes, I do. In fact, this video proves it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1k4wNXfDB8.
