Book Review-Half a Heart-Karen McQuestion

This book is both heart breaking and heart warming--it will make you believe in miracles and karma. When a horribly abused, by his father, 9 year old boy finally fears for his life--he runs! He hides in a truck which takes off with him. He finds himself in Wisconsin--no friends--no family. The men driving the truck felt bad and handed him a $5.00 bill. He ultimately went into the gas station store and was very careful about spending that money--he had to make it last. He used the restroom to wash up and then went walking to see if he could find some shelter. He happened upon a tree house which was on an old ladies property--but could not be seen by the house easily. He settled into the tree house and made his way back and forth between there and the store each day. He managed to find food that was left and then spent his last 1.00 on 2 bananas--the shop keeper told him it was his lucky day--buy 2 bananas--get one free! Then a really bad rain storm hit and he hid under the shelter of the old woman's canopy. Actually the dog found him but the woman told him to come on in--made him take a bath and fed him. She noticed the welts on his back.

Meanwhile, the grandmother, who his father had told him was dead, was frantically searching for him--unfortunately so was his father---who would reach him first? And what would happen to cause the biggest miracle of all?

I really think everyone should read this book--it can't fail to make you think and hope. I do suggest having tissues nearby--both for sad tears and happy ones!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

From bestselling author Karen McQuestion comes a moving novel about broken hearts…and what it takes to put them back together again.

At nine years of age, Logan Weber knows the routine. Keep quiet, make the food last, and don’t ever cause trouble. He’ll do what it takes to evade the rages of his troubled, violent father. Even though he’s only a child, Logan already knows too much—has seen too much.

So when the opportunity presents itself, Logan runs. He has no idea where his journey will lead, or that the grandmother he’s been told is dead is desperately searching for him.

Alone with no home of his own, Logan looks for a safe place to hide. Relying on his instincts and the kindness of strangers, the boy manages to touch the lives of everyone he meets. But his innocent heart cannot survive in the adult world without the most basic human need of all: love.
