Book Review-Romeow and Juliet-(Whales and Tails Mystery Book#1)-Kathi Daley

One thing I have to warn you about--there is a cliffhanger at the end of this book which drove me absolutely crazy and now I will have to get the 2nd book in this series to find out what happens!!! I know I do it to all of you on occasion----but really--now I know how you feel (I will keep doing it however!)

Cait just can't help but want to solve mysteries. So when she and her friend and business partner find a dead council member in the building they are hoping to purchase to make their business larger and to showcase the cats from Harthaven Sanctuary-which Cait's Aunt owns. Cait helps her run the sanctary.

Cats pick their owners so when a stray walked into Cait's house --well--she now had a dog (Max) and a cat. This particular cat (named Romeo) may have had an ulterior motive--Juliet, the neighbors very expensive show car lived next door!!

Then Cait's Aunt is poisoned--now Cait really wants to know who did that!! And another person has been bribed to leave the city council early--just before the election -which will decide whether a condo should be built in this sleepy little location.

As I said--I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be reading more of this series one way or another!!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

Romeow and Juliet is the first in a cozy mystery series set on Madrona Island, a fictional island within the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington State. As a fourth generation islander Caitlin Hart is struggling to make her way as the economy and culture of the island evolves toward a tourism based industry. Cait lives in a cabin on her aunt's oceanfront estate where she helps her aunt run Harthaven Cat Sanctuary. When she isn't working with the cats, she helps best friend Tara, operate the coffee bar/bookstore/cat lounge they own, named Coffee Cat Books.

In the first installment to the series Cait and her dog Max find the body of a member of the island council dead in the back room of the old fish cannery. As Cait delves into the murder she finds herself with an unlikely sleuthing partner that might just lead to a relationship of a more personal kind.

Meanwhile, Romeo, as stray cat that followed Cait home, is causing all sorts of problems for Cait as, in spite of dire warnings from the neighbor next door, he refuses to stay away from her very expensive show cat, Juliet. Could Romeo really be trying to tell Cait something about the neighbor that she initially refuses to see?

It's always nice to see a classic repurposed and modernized. I'm curious to find out about that cliffhanger that you mentioned. Maybe I will have to check it out for myself since you piqued my curiosity.

Sounds like a great mystery, especially if you love cats! Always love a good cliffhanger at the end of the story, never can have enough books.

A little bit of a cliffhanger is okay but when the second book isn't out yet, that drives me crazy too!

This would be a good book for a cat lover. It is amazing that the author was able to weave a mystery story that involves cats. Interesting.

This book's title alone captured my attention! I love how it seems to have more than one story line going at the same time.
