Book Review-Avalon: a Heartwarming True Cat Story-Vanessa Morgan

Wednesday, March 9, 2016

I purchased this book quite a while ago but just got around to reading it. Strangely enough, although I did not know it I had been following Vanessa's Facebook page (website) Traveling Cats for a while--loving all the pictures she takes of cats around the world, never realizing that this was the author of the book I had been trying to get to!

Like Vanessa I never travel mainly because I won't leave my pets--and if I had to make a choice--the guy goes--the pet stays. Avalon was a very dominant and jealous cat who needed one person and that persons total attention. I did have a cat who literally walked into my apartment one day and never left--he liked all people--but--the one time I had to leave him alone overnight (I was stick in NYC in a major power outage)--like Avalon he clung to me with his paws wrapped around my neck the minute I walked in the house. My current cat definitely has issues--and is also a one person cat. NO MEN allowed in my apartment, or I am given a talking to until they leave!!

This book will certainly warm the heart of anyone who owns or has ever owned a cat. It is good to know that there are others like me who would rather be alone then to give up any animal!!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

Some cats need nine lives to make a difference. Avalon only needed one.

From Amazon bestselling author Vanessa Morgan, Avalon is the heartwarming and once-in-a-lifetime love story of a girl and her neurotic Turkish Van cat.

With humor, the author details how Avalon made other creatures cringe in distress whenever he was around, how he threw her dates out by means of special techniques, and how he rendered it almost impossible for her to leave the house. Avalon was so incorrigible that even her landlord ordered her to get rid of him. But beneath Avalon's demonic boisterousness, Vanessa recognized her own flaws and insecurities, and she understood that abandoning Avalon would be the worst she could do to him. Thanks to her unswerving loyalty, Avalon transformed into a tender feline, and even landed a major role in a horror movie. In turn, Avalon made it his mission to be there for his human companion.

By turns jubilant and deeply moving, Avalon is a memoir for anyone who has ever been obsessively in love with a pet.

The pets always know best. If I were single, I could see myself choosing a pet over a date. Thankfully that isn't a problem. Can't wait to dive into this book.

We had a dog that had severe separation anxiety so we didn't like to travel either. We ended up finding a great kennel (spa) that treated him so well he loved to go there!

I'm glad she believed in him. They needed each other and I am glad she held on and didn't abandon him. I'm not a cat lover but I love animals and I would never abandon my dogs. Thanks for sharng.
