Book Review-To Catch a Bad Guy (Janet Maple Series Book 1)-Marie Astor

Janet was blind sided at her prestigious job by her now ex-boyfriend, and was "down sized" as a result. I know exactly how it feels to have your ideas and hard work "stolen" by a co-worker or boss--it does not feel good! Meanwhile she is out of work and can not seem to find another job. When her childhood friend who works for a BIG financial company offers Janet a job--she jumps at the chance. Now Janet is a lawyer and an investigator and is good at what she does. But there is something strange going on--how come she is just kind of sitting there with very little to do and her friend even less----Enter stage right-the IT guy-Dean Snider. Throw in the fact that her friend is angling to be married to the owners son who is COO of the company--and is throwing men at Janet constantly-especially the lawyer who does work for the company-and a couple of other mishaps and you have yourself an interesting read to say the least. I think I am going to have to read at least Book 2 in this series to see what happens next!!!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

Janet Maple's stellar career ended with a lay off and her boyfriend of almost five years told her that he wants to be just friends. When she lands a job at one of New York’s premier boutique investment firms, Janet begins to hope that her luck is finally turning for the better. Not only is she happy with her new paycheck, but things also seem to be looking up on the personal front, as the company’s handsome attorney expresses keen interest in Janet. However, her euphoria is short-lived, as Janet soon discovers alarming facts about her new employer’s business tactics. When her boss dismisses her suspicions as groundless, Janet finds herself confiding to a cute IT engineer, Dean Snider. The closer she gets to Dean, the more Janet is tempted to break her rule of not dating co-workers, but what she doesn’t realize is that everything she knows about Dean, including his occupation and even his name, is a lie.

Dennis Walker is a top-notch white collar crime investigator who will stop at nothing to put culprits away. When an opportunity for an undercover assignment at one of New York’s premier boutique investment firms comes up, Dennis jumps at the chance, adopting a persona of geeky IT engineer, Dean Snider. While he may be an ace at his job, years of experience fail him when Dennis meets Janet Maple and finds himself torn between his professional obligations and his personal desires. Will he have to choose between his feelings and duty, or will he find a way to satisfy both?

Oh no... it's a cliff hanger. It is nice when a book grabs you like that and makes you want to read more.

I love that the main character is a strong, independent female. It looks like a great read.

Sounds like a good book. We read books in my knitting group - I will have to tell the other ladies about it. Thanks for sharing.

What a reversal. It's usually the girls saying "let's just be friends"!

This sounds like a really exciting book. I like when there's a good plot and a nice amount that keeps you wanting to know what happens next.

Lots of big changes (like a layoff and a 'just friends' memo) at the same time can lead to very good things. Even if it doesn't seem like it at the time. I'm wondering if that's how this ends up here!

This sounds like the perfect book for me! I love mysteries that keep me reading with a little romance thrown in. I'll have to put this on my reading list!

I love to read, and really enjoy a good series. I don't generally care for romance but I do enjoy mystery and suspense.
