Book Review-Desolation Sound-Fraser C. Heston & Heather J. McAdams

This novel certainly has a lot of twists and turns and just as you think you know who the serial killer is------oops I was wrong and it will shock you!! The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are known for "always getting their man" But are they even really looking for him. So many missing girls--22 of them blond, young and runners--Then there are the feet that keep being found in its shoe-no bodies-just the feet and shoe!

It takes the combined force of Jack Harris, an ex Seattle homicide detective and a young Canadian RCMP rookie, Liz McDonald to finally fit all of the pieces together without the help of her fellow officers.

It took me no time at all to read this book-thinking it was totally fictional then on the last page a note from the author-it seems that there is actually a severed feet mystery--although the story itself is fictional-the mystery has yet to be solved!

About the Book
: (from Amazon)

Fourteen severed feet. Twenty-two missing blondes. One knife.

This evocative Northwest Noir thriller, set in the misty islands of British Columbia, will keep you on edge until its astonishing conclusion. Based on a real-life, unsolved mystery.

Seattle homicide detective Jack Harris–a depressed alcoholic, prone to violence, was kicked off the force for killing a killer. He retired to the Gulf Islands and a quiet life of fly-fishing, sea kayaking and heavy drinking, to escape his demons. Until he finds the 13th severed human foot to wash ashore since 2007. RCMP claims there are no signs of foul play, but as Jack says, “Two feet is an anomaly, three to four statistically curious, six to ten, you have to think dirty. But thirteen feet? Seriously?”

Blond female runners have been disappearing lately in the lower mainland. RCMP corporal Liz MacDonald–an obsessive, ambitious, rookie detective was kicked off a case for beating a suspect. She fits the victim profile perfectly. Young, good-looking, blond long distance runner. She also happens to be convinced that these disappearances are linked to the severed feet. Liz and Jack team up to catch a sadistic serial killer before he catches them.

About the Authors: (from Amazon)

Fraser C. Heston

FRASER C. HESTON, the son of actor Charlton Heston and Lydia C. Heston, began his film career in Hollywood in 1955, on the back lot at Paramount Studios, playing the infant Moses in Cecil B. DeMille's TEN COMMANDMENTS. His father, of course, portrayed the adult Moses, though Fraser has not forgiven him for taking first billing.

Fraser wrote his first produced screenplay at 21, THE MOUNTAIN MEN for Columbia pictures. Since then he has written, produced and/or directed numerous feature films, television movies, and documentaries, including MOTHER LODE, starring Charlton Heston and Academy Award winner Kim Basinger (which brought about the founding of his production company, Agamemnon Films, in 1981); THE PROUD MEN for ABC; A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS for TNT, and the critically acclaimed TREASURE ISLAND (a lifelong dream), starring his father and Academy Award winner Christian Bale. Fraser also wrote, produced and directed the Sherlock Holmes film CRUCIFER OF BLOOD for Turner.

Fraser directed the Stephen King thriller NEEDFUL THINGS and the family adventure film ALASKA, both for Castle Rock Entertainment/Columbia Pictures. He also produced the highly successful and critically-acclaimed documentary CHARLTON HESTON PRESENTS THE BIBLE, for A&E and Agamemnon, and the documentary CHARLTON HESTON & BEN-HUR, for Warner Brothers. Most recently, he wrote, produced and directed the award-winning documentary THE SEARCH FOR MICHAEL ROCKEFELLER, solving the mystery of the famous scion's disappearance in New Guinea in 1961. Fraser has also written, with Heather J. McAdams, the screenplay for the feature version of that film, GHOSTS OF NEW GUINEA.

Always an avid outdoorsman, sailor, mountaineer, photographer and fly fisherman, Fraser's travels and adventures have included voyages and expeditions to Alaska, Canada, Africa, Scotland, Ireland & Europe, the Amazon, the Andes, Patagonia, the Caribbean, Australia, the Red Sea, the South Pacific, Hawaii, Norway, Sweden & the North Sea, The Mediterranean, the Aegean, British Columbia, the Yukon, the North Pacific and a remarkable sailing voyage circumnavigating Cape Horn. He continues to travel the world, in search of adventure and a good story.

Fraser is a member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, The British Academy of Film and Television Arts, The Director's Guild of America, the Writers Guild of America, and The Explorer's Club. Fraser lived for many years in British Columbia and now resides in Los Angeles with his wife Marilyn and son Jack, only a few minutes from the back lot at Paramount.

Heather J. McAdams

Heather J. McAdams is originally from Pittsburgh, PA. She graduated from Duke University, having majored in Public Policy, Philosophy and Women's Studies. Figuring there was more red tape in D.C than any development hell, filmmaking, writing, acting and stand-up comedy seemed like an obvious career pursuit. With a budget of 360 dollars (American), she co-wrote, produced and starred in, REALITY WORLD, ECHO PARK which won the Silverlake Award at the Silverlake Film Festival.

Most recently, she co-produced the award-winning documentary THE SEARCH FOR MICHAEL ROCKEFELLER, and with Fraser Heston, wrote screenplays for the feature version of that film, as well as the thriller DESOLATION SOUND (both novel and script) for Agamemnon Films, where she is head of development. In addition to Agamemnon's exciting development slate, she is working on two comedy series: HA! and STANDUP SELFIES. She plays soccer (without diving) and just completed her second marathon. Heather lives near the beach with her husband, son, and two black dogs.

I love when I read a book and it has a lot of twists and turns. It is no fun figuring out who the killer is on the first few pages. I would rather be surprised.

Books with lots of twist and turns are THE BEST kind of books to read. I always hate it when I can predict the ending. Sounds like a book to put on my reading list.
