Book Review-Once Upon a Nightmare-Nat Goodale

Wednesday, June 10, 2015

When your home life is a mess, you have lost your purpose in life and nothing is working out the way it should it is easy for a smooth talking operator to convince you to do what under normal circumstances you would never think of doing. This is what happened to Jesse, an independently wealthy guy who loved flying planes. Luckily he was on a flight where the pilot and co-pilot didn't know what to do--Jesse talked them through it and they landed safely. But someone was observing this interaction very carefully!

Santee, a well dressed man approached Jesse and thanked him for saving their lives. He asked if Jesse would take him in (Jesse's) plane on a tour of the coast of Maine for an exorbitant amount of money. The day turned into a week and then Santee asked if Jesse would like a job in his organization. Because he was bored Jesse ultimately agreed and that is where the action begins!!! Jesse figures out what kind of an organization Santee really runs and it takes all his ingenuity to try to get home again--will he make it?

This book kept me going, I did enjoy it. Some of the political connotations and references I am afraid are very real--I just hope not as much as in this novel!!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

DRUGS GUNS BOATS MONEY PLANES
Jesse Langdon III accepts an offer he should refuse. He is lost in a deteriorating marriage and torn by the love for his children. He falls into the depths of the underworld, where unlimited cash brings corruption to the highest levels of government and the courts. It is near impossible to determine who is the assassin, the informant or the federal agent.

Once Upon a Nightmare takes readers on a wild ride into the upper echelons of drug smuggling in South America, Florida and New England. Jesse is consumed by the business of running drugs and sinks deeper into his own inner darkness. He and the drug lord's mistress, Claire, plot their escape. But who is she, really?

Two weeks' notice and a request for severance pay is not a recommended exit strategy from this web of deception and violence.

How would you get out?
