Book Review - Ads for God-Tony Vanderwarker

Wednesday, June 17, 2015

This is definitely a tongue in cheek book about the Advertising World. A lot of what happens can and does happen in most any field where the "youth culture" is prevalent and of course greed and back stabbing always seem to occur no matter where you work. But as you get older these things seem to happen more and more! But what if you had a chance to fight your way back to the top?

You will get more then one laugh out of this one and as for the ending-------as one door closes----another opens and life goes on!! That is all I am going to say!!!!! I suggest you read this book--social commentary at it's best.

About the Book
(from Amazon)

[If you liked MAD MEN, you'll love ADS FOR GOD!]

In this comic novel, a jaded adman gets a chance for redemption when God taps him for his marketing campaign... Author and former adman, Tony Vanderwarker--perhaps best known for his book, Writing With The Master (2014), about John Grisham helping him with one of his other novels--brings plenty of insider perspective to this snarky, rollicking tale... Just when the deus ex machina seems shaky, that becomes precisely the point, and the novel turns into a rather biting social commentary. An amusing satire about the ad business, with clever twists on its gimmick and dead-on barbs about our brand-obsessed culture. -- Kirkus Reviews

About the Author (from Author's Website)

Raised in New England, Tony went to prep school at Andover, spent a couple years at Yale and then served two years in the Peace Corps where he got bitten both by tsetse flies and the writing bug. He went to film school at NYU and made documentaries and a full length feature film which didn’t sell so he decided to try shorter films and went into advertising. Fifteen years later, he had his own ad agency in Chicago where he did “Be Like Mike” for Gatorade. When his partners bought him out, Tony finally had a chance to write full time. It only took him fifteen more years to finally get a book published. “Who cares?” Tony says. “Some writers hit paydirt fast, others take longer. I’m just glad my time has come.” (For more about this author go to his website)

Miki: Thanks much for the review and I appreciate all the positive comments, nothing makes an author's day like hearing good stuff about your book. And watch for my next one:"I'm Not From the South But I Got Down Here As Fast As I Could".

Advertising surrounds us and I think it effects an individuals ability to think critically.
