Book Review-The Other Inheritance-Rebecca Jaycox

Wednesday, April 1, 2015

This book is one that would be enjoyed by young adults and their parents as well. Reggie is not like any of the other kids in her school--she never has been and has had to fight off bullies all her life it seems. To top it all off she is more the mother in the home as her Mom turned to drink after Reggie's father left and never came back. She had one close friend, John.

Then strange things started happening--with the touch of her hand a frog came back to life in class--then started the dreams. It turns out that there is an alternate reality and that is where Reggie actually belongs. Of course this other world has lots of weird type characters--some friendly-some not. And you know there has to be some kind of revolution going on between the good guys and the bad guys. In order to find out more about her powers Reggie has to find Rhys-other then in her dreams that is. And that is no easy matter!!

The way the book ends you know there will be a sequel coming!

About the book: (from Amazon)

She touched the frog. Just once. It leaped into the air and hopped away, disappearing under the classroom desks. It had been awaiting its fate as a science experiment, fully dead, the stench of formaldehyde permeating the room . . .

Seventeen-year-old Reggie has been having a tougher time than usual. As if dealing with her alcoholic mother and fighting school bullies isn’t enough, dead things keep coming back to life and this biker dude shows up in her dreams, babbling about magic and a world called the Other.

Reggie’s life is changing, and she has no idea why. Or whether she should believe Rhys, the man in her dreams, who claims she’s in danger and that someone is coming to take her to a safer reality.

And when Asher shows up, things really get crazy.

Ok, so was the book left on a cliffhanger or did it wrap up? Nothing gives me more rage than getting all the way through a book and being left hanging.

This would be especially good for families dealing with bullies, it seems. The kids need to know that they can still be amazing!

That sounds like a great book for young adults, especially if they can relate to bullies. It sounded close to what I went through as a kid until the magical part. I would love to read to find out everything her powers can do.

While I don't normally read these tips of books, this sounds like one I would pick up. I love the intrigue and with a sequel possibly coming even better. :)

There are great topics included in the book. I know a lot of readers will identify with Reggie on a personal level. Yet the idea of another reality is really captivating.
