Book Review-The Deepest Dark-Joan Hall Hovey

This book was disturbing to me on many levels. I was able to read it in one sitting, riveted to the pages and story line. Abby Miller, an author, was already going through a deep depression due to the deaths of her husband and daughter. She decided to go to their cabin up in the woods to try and relax and continue writing. Meanwhile three prisoners had escaped and were on the run. An elderly couple is brutally murdered. No one except Abby and her now deceased husband know where this cabin is located. Abby's sister is frantic with worry and is determined to find her. But-one other person knows this cabin. I will leave you to read the book to find out who-the answer will astonish you as much as it did Abbey!

About the Book (From Amazon)

Following the deaths of her husband, Corey, and ten year old daughter Ellie in a traffic accident, author Abby Miller sinks ever deeper into depression. She contemplates suicide as a way to be with them, and to end her unrelenting pain.
In a last desperate effort to find peace, she drives to Loon Lake where they last vacationed together, wanting to believe they will be waiting for her there. At least in spirit. Barring that, the pills Doctor Gregory gave her to help her sleep, are in her purse.

The cabin at Loon Lake was her and Corey’s secret hideaway, and not even Abby’s sister, Karen, to whom she is close, knows where it is. But someone else does. He is one of three men who have escaped from Pennington prison. They are dangerous predators who will stop at nothing to get what they want - and to keep from going back to prison. Having already committed the worst of crimes, they have nothing to lose.

Unknowingly, Abby is on a collision course with evil itself. And the decision of whether to live or die will soon be wrenched from her hands.

I have such a love hate with these thrillers lol. I love them but I pay for it when I try to go to bed.

I don't do much reading as far as books are concerned except to my kids of course, but this one seems like it'd be a good one to read with suspense thrillers.

Now this is a book I could get into.. And, now that I am in Montana on vacation, I have time to read.

Your first comment about it being disturbing tells me there is no way I want to read this. Last thing I need is a book keeping me up at night!

Ah!!! Nice cliff hanger on the write-up. I'm a big chicken of such writings but you've got even ME wanting to read this. You did that once before w/one of your write ups and I was not disappointed at all with the read. Love this blog!! You open up my reading realm to things I would never try. Putting this one on my list (my third of yours reviewed in a very short time, lol).

This sounds like a thriller that I may have to read during the day. I am currently reading a few books right now but this is going on my Kindle TBR list so I can get it when I'm done with the ones I'm reading.
