Book Review-Winter's Mourn (Winter Black Series Book 1) -Mary Stone

Having read Winter's Origin (read my review here) I knew I had to follow Winter as an FBI agent who had an objective in mind--to find the murderer of her parents and the abductor of her younger brother. She had very unusual abilities ever since she woke out of the coma from that fateful night. When the color red appears she knows she has found a suspect in which ever case she is working.

She is paired with another rookie and sent to the town where it all happened. It seems that a body has been found--and then more bodies and more bodies! All but one are very young children--Agent Black and her too handsome partner are bound and determined to get to the bottom of it all--even though the local police are not very helpful--at least not at the beginning.

There was a deep dark secret in this town--and it took all Winter's ingenuity and special abilities to ferret out the truth and save her old friend--and a young girl.

Meanwhile the person who had murdered her family was watching and dropping notes--actually stalking Winter--

When you get to the end of this psychological thriller most but not all will be revealed. I read it in one sitting-I could not put it down! I will definitely be reading more of this series--Mary Stone knows how to write a thriller!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

The graves are small, but they hide a big secret.

When The Preacher targets her family for his last kill, Winter Black is the only survivor. After recovering from the brain injury she received that brutal night, Winter single-mindedly pursues a career as an FBI agent, but not even her unexplainable talents, discovered after her coma, can prepare her for her first case.

After human remains are discovered in the woods, someone will go to lethal lengths to keep an old mystery buried. Special Agent Black is pulled into an investigation that hits too close to home. In the town where her parents were murdered, Winter needs to find one killer...while being stalked by the shadow of another.

Welcome to book one of Mary Stone’s debut crime fiction series. If you love a page-turning thriller with mind churning mystery, unexpected villains, and riveting suspense, Winter’s Mourn will keep you guessing until the end.

About the Author: (Author's Website)

Mary Stone lives among the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains of East Tennessee with her two dogs, four cats, a couple of energetic boys, and a very patient husband.

As a young girl, she would go to bed every night, wondering what type of creature might be lurking underneath. But instead of asking her parents to look for her, Mary looked herself. Scared, sure, but she just needed to know. Needed to see with her own eyes. It wasn’t until she was older that she learned that the creatures she needed to most fear were human.

Mary has always adored puzzles of any kind and could often be found sitting in a corner with a pencil scrunched tightly in her hand, an open puzzle book on her lap. This isn't to say she's a loner. Quite the contrary, Mary has always been a leader taking her friends on many exciting adventures to hunt down and capture an assortment of bad guys pulled from her imagination.

Today, instead of walking that imaginary beat, she now creates vivid stories with courageous, strong heroines and dastardly villains. She invites you to enter her world of serial killers, FBI agents but never damsels in distress. Her female characters can handle themselves, going toe-to-toe with any male character, protagonist or antagonist.

Come on, open a book. Mary dares you to look under the bed with her.
