Drugs are rampant in this country and has been for a while. What some don't realize this is also hitting small towns and villages.

In this fictitious novel small farmers are giving up farming and turning to processing drugs. They need the money--but once in the drug lord won't let them out. This is what happens to Paula James father. Paula had taken a leave from her journalism job to try and help him get over the loss of her mother. The story begins with Paula having to escape their burning house with her tiny dog. She goes back in and finds that her father is dead-a gunshot trough his head.

On the run Paula calls her long time friend to help her get to the bottom of all this and try to clean up her hometown. The two investigative journalists get more then they bargained for--much more.

Definitely a novel I enjoyed reading--just hope that fiction does not turn into fact!!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

When Paula James is awakened by a gunshot, she knows she must escape her home immediately and go off the grid.

When David van Pelt receives her call for help, he acts instinctively to shelter her, though he recently became engaged to another woman.

And when Paula gives him an account of murder and mayhem in a county where the manufacture of drugs is rampant and the sheriff is crooked, they both decide, in their roles as investigative journalists, to find out who has turned the peaceful backwoods region into a lawless wilderness.

David has always known Paula as sassy and strong, but upon encountering an unexpected vulnerability in her, he promises to stand by her whatever happens. Together they begin a life on the run, digging through countless layers of misdirection, all the while fighting the fierce attraction between them.

Side by side they struggle to elude a drug lord whose influence spans the globe. Following leads to Seattle, Las Vegas, LA’s Chinatown, Chicago, and Arkansas, they find that everyone seems to know more than they do. But no one understands the whole story, and soon David and Paula are in the crosshairs of a murderer.

When they finally confront the killer and discover the truth, it is far different than anything they could have imagined. And, most of all, they know it will make a great story.
