Eyesight is Precious

Tuesday, July 25, 2017

Not only are Eyes the "window to your soul"--they are also what allow you to read and see all the beauty that nature has to offer! Try and imagine what it would be like to live without vision. Yes, your other senses would sort of take over-but it would not be the same-at least to me.

I was born with weak muscles in both eyes. My doctor and parents decided back then that they would not operate--rather they used exercises. I did become a "gymnast" and unless very tired could pull my eyes back together--or else close the eye which was worse and I was fine--until recently.

An eye doctor (surgeon) decided that I had narrow angle vision and I needed laser surgery. So be it--I let her do it. Unfortunately ever since then I have been unable to control the muscle in my right eye--not that any eye doctor will believe me! I have also developed relatively high pressure in my eyes (especially the right one). Pressure behind your eyes can be very dangerous!! That surgeon tried all different kinds of drops that were supposed to work--I had reactions to every one of them. She sent me to a Glaucoma specialist who said I did not have Glaucoma (WHEW). I finally went to a different eye doctor and he also started with the drops--again--my eyes would not tolerate them. The last time I called for an appointment I was told he didn't take my insurance anymore. Meanwhile my eyes were getting worse!

I found another ophthalmologist who took my insurance. I went to see him--3 1/2 hours later I was told that I would have to go back. He was going to try and get all the records from all the other eye doctors. So this Friday--back I will go. I am hoping against hope that this doc can finally figure out what is wrong and that there is something that can be done.

For now I carry around 4 pair of readers-all different strengths for when I am at different clients, reading a paperback or working on my computer. And I really have to get a magnifying glass--that small print seems to be getting smaller everyday!

That is a pretty neat magnifying glass, however, I do not need one just yet. My problem is seeing when I have typed, the spaces between the letters and words for example. I have an eye appointment August the 4th for new glasses. You know the saying, the older I get ... Please do everything the eye drs. tell you. Having diabetes I'm sure you know the caution you must have for your eyesight. I wish you all the best!

I hope everything works out for you. It's a pain when you have to fight to get the help you need and eyes are something not to mess with.

This is a great post. I've been having eyesight problems due to cataracts and diabetes. Never take your eyesight and health for granted.

Prayers. It’s hard to find good doctors at times, especially ones that take insurance that you have.

OK, wow. That is some serious weirdness in your eyes and I hope it's all mellowed out by now!! My Mom has problems with hers because she suffers from Trigeminal neuralgia and when she has to have work done they hit the nerve and set off a spat of neuralgia which is down right nasty. I hope you find someone that seems to want to get you fixed up.

Wow, I am so sorry that you are going through this! I hope that everything works out for you, eye sight really is precious. My oldest daughter has a eye that does not want to work (without her glasses it goes in, like a cross eye) and just recently had prisms put in her lenses. It seems to be helping a lot, but they sure are thick!

I am sorry you have had to go through this. I have worn glasses since a child and now that I am older I have to wear transitions or readers if I wear contacts.

I am so sorry you have to go thru this. It's bad enough to have to deal with the problem and contain your nerves. It's so sad that it's 2020 and you are getting the run-around. I hope this doctor will finally be able to help you. If they have problems getting your records, you may have to make a special trip after calling them to get copies. They are your files and don't let them give you the any problems.
Keep us posted on how you are doing.
