Book Review-A View to Die For-Richard Houston

This is definitely not your typical murder mystery--it is very laid back and makes for a comfortable read! The main character is an average guy (divorced)-living alone with his dog and plagued with a domineering mother and needy sister. They luckily do not live anywhere near him! Then he gets a phone call----from his Mom and then his sister--he has to come and help them--STAT.

So. he packs Fred (his lovable Golden Retriever)in his car along with money he withdrew from his dwindling funds and off he drives. Thank heavens for Mcdonald's fast food restaurants! He has several mishaps along the way which will make you smile-they could really happen to any of us! AND his Mother keeps calling to find out where he is and how long it will take to get there.

It turns out his sister's husband has either been murdered or committed suicide. His sister's house might be going into foreclosure and she is considered the prime suspect. It is up to Jacob (with a bit of help from Fred) to not only exonerate his sister but to save her home. His nephew is a typical teen--he gets in trouble too. To make matters worse-the local sheriff has taken a dislike of Jacob. And what a bunch of neighbors!!!!

So, can Jacob solve all of this and get back to his quiet life? Read the book--you will enjoy it!!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

The story is not your typical murder mystery. The sleuth is not a detective, private eye, or lawyer. He's an ordinary guy with an extraordinary dog.

Jacob Martin is trying to make the best of a divorce and mid-life crisis when he gets a call at two o’clock Sunday morning from his mother. His sister has been arrested for the murder of her fourth husband, and his father is near death. Thus begins an adventure that takes Jake and his golden retriever from their Colorado retreat to a backwater town in the Missouri Ozarks where they search for cold-blooded killers, a cache of gold coins buried by Jesse James, and the love of a beautiful nurse.

About the Author; 9from Amazon)

Richard Houston worked as a carpenter for 20 years while taking college classes whenever he could. After earning a bachelor's degree in math he spent the next 25 years as a successful software engineer. Although he found success in those professions, he always dreamed of writing a novel. He honed that craft by taking every creative writing class he could. Somehow his poems and short stories usually had a dog as a major character. One in particular, Begging Not for Love, was published by the Mendocino Review.

Richard now lives and writes at his lake home in Missouri where he and his wife are raising their granddaughter, two dachshunds, and a rescue dog that is mostly Golden Retreiver.

This does sound like a good read. And doesn't sound like a typical mystery. Thanks for the review. I will have to get this.
