Baby is a "Herding" Cat!!

Tuesday, March 18, 2014

Now we have all heard of dogs that herd for a living--they round up sheep and if domesticated also keep their furry friends and their people in the same general area. I had a dog like that at one point. If one of the furry friends started to wander off in the park suddenly there he would be-herding them right back to the fold. But I never heard tell of a cat doing this!! Until Baby started doing it with me----

She really does her best to "herd" me away from the front door and into the bedroom or kitchen-whichever direction I am heading at the moment. She obviously likes me to be home where she thinks I belong 24/7. If and when I do "escape" she makes sure to wait behind the front door (or hears the elevator and gets to that spot just before I walk in) and I am greeted with a very loud and indignant MEOW. From that point until I get into my night gown--she "dogs" my steps. If she thinks I might be headed for the door she very gently nips my ankle to remind me that she is watching and following. I won't tell you how many times I either nearly stepped on her or tripped over her. But one thing is for certain-I am "herded" away from the front door!

She is a single fur baby and I was warned when I adopted her that she really was not too good around other cats or any other animal for that matter so getting her a brother or sister is out of the question. Baby has decided that (well mostly)--she won't set a paw outside the apartment door--but does stick her head out and I can almost see her thinking--"What in the world is so interesting out there?"

(Baby on her chair where she can keep an eye on the front door!)

Does your cat do anything unusual--do they follow you around like a dog would?

I am very allergic to cats, so I do have a dog (who is my shadow), but my in-laws have a cat that will run and hide when anyone enters the house. She has a spot under the sofa and nothing will get her out until everyone leaves. It cracks. me up.

That is so cute!! One of my new kittens (Indy) really thinks I'm his mom! When we got them we were told they were 10 weeks, but the vet thinks whoever dropped them off exaggerated their ages a bit. He thinks they were probably 8 weeks which means they were probably taken from their mom too early since they were at the Humane Society a while. Anyway, Indy crawls onto my shoulder, kneads my hair, and tries to nurse on my earlobe! He is so funny. I guess I'm a cat. It is probably because he was sick when we got him too, and he'd sleep in my neck. He still does that.

Sometimes I wish I had a cat again. Five little dogs can get tiring.

Fierce look! What a smart cat! Sadly my son is really allergic to cats but I know how loving and protective they can be.

I don't have a cat, but we had 2 pugs a few years back. The male pug was always trying to herd the female around. It was quite funny!

How sweet. My grandma had a cat that didn't like to go outside too. No worries, he had a very happy inside life...just as it appears is going on over at your place. :)

I used to have three cats. They would always suddenly appear as a lap-warmer as soon as I sat down.
