Where To Get Rid of All That Stuff I Have Accumulated

Monday, June 17, 2013

The most obvious answer to that is to try and sell it on Ebay or on some other auction site. You will at least be able to recoup some of the money you have spent or that object you won that you found you really did not like or need. If, however, you are like me and don’t know one end of a camera from another these places are not going to help you unload all the excess “things” you have accumulated over your internet career! (In my case over 2 years of blogging and another 2 or 3 years of various other internet related activities.

Up until recently I had a LOT of books all over my apartment which my tyrant roommate (Baby) liked to swat on the floor whenever I wasn’t looking—hey they were taking up her “stretch out” room and no matter how I begged, yelled or was firm with her—next thing I knew they were back on the floor and she would show them to me with what looked like a smile on her face. Thus my first order of business was finding a place to donate all those books. I am keeping some for giveaways on my blog, I did and do give some to my Mom and friends—and then I found:

A Book Depository

Right next to the clothing depository in the supermarket parking lot!! I am still to trying get all the clothes that no longer fit me in bags—but I had a lot of clothes—so when I have a bunch of books for that bin I take a couple of bags of clothes along—saves on gas!!

OK-on to the next problem—all the stuff that I used to sell plus all the stuff I used to buy in buying groups. In case you do not know what a buying group is—independent reps join groups with other independent reps and each buys from one other person each month—well I am no longer working so I have stopped that but I have a bunch of things that I will probably never use. Plus I have a bunch of items from places that folded or I just stopped selling for them. I have thought of giveaways on my blog for some of the things and still may do it. I recently gave a bunch of items to a new rep for a company that I still am part of but gave up on selling!

Then there are all the CD’s etc that have been sitting in my closet for ages—there is a place that I can attempt to sell them-as a matter of fact I think I blogged about it a while back—but I have to first get them out of the closet then list them one by one----I will get to this—I really will!! Found it—

Music Magpie

That leaves me with all the miscellaneous soaps, scents, candles etc. Well maybe I will donate it to a church or charity group if I can find one that wants it! Giveaways on my blog seem like the logical answer—what do you think—now remember I can’t take pictures of any of it!

OUr library also has a book sale. Great tips for all those paper backs I know I wont read again. I have also had a book swap with friends, make some coffee and sweets and swap books.

I usually give my books to goodwill! As far as the candles and stuff, maybe a homeless shelter would take them? Wouldn't hurt to ask!

Donate it! We don't need anymore treasures. Or, you and I could swap. I'll give you all my animal hair for your books ;) I love getting rid of stuff. Note to self, don't buy it in the first place.

I really don't buy a lot of books although I wish I had all my favorites on my bookshelf (I borrow eBooks from the library). But my library has a book sale. They even have a "Free Books" shelf :)

I end up with a lot of books too. I take them in to trade or donate them to hospitals or something like that. I also donate a lot of stuff to Goodwill. I have heard of places where you can sell items to make money. I think that sounds great.

We have ended up with WAY too much stuff too....I used to sell the kids stuff at consignment, books, I'd hand off to relatives. Now I'm just donating it all. I'd rather have the space than all that stuff piling up!

I know a lot of libraries take donations of books. Maybe schools would want them too?

I don't like to give my stuff away either but my husband would leave me if I didn't get rid of things once in a while. Perhaps there are places you could donate them to that really need them or would enjoy them.

We were exactly in the same book nightmare a while back, in the end we posted on Ebay we didn't sell them for much but the buyer came to the house and collected them and then all of a sudden we had our home back or at least part of it !!

I used to have so many books and I wanted to sell them, or give them to the library but never got around to it. I think they just got thrown away that's no good. Selling stuff online can be a job and costly, so I'd say unless it's something really valuable then donating is best, like to a library or something like that.

I need to do this too! I have a huge pile of books that I have read that I should donate!

If you can run a blog, you can learn how to take pictures. You are obviously very intelligent! I donate my un-needed items, though want to find a charity where it helps people instead of some guy at the top that makes more than my household does in a year.

Have you ever heard of freecycle? It's a great way to donate items you no longer want to someone that could use it, you can find a group close to you. I use ebay often to sell items. Something better might be bookoo, there might be a site for one near you.

That's good. At least you dispose what you have accumulated and have others benefit from it too. I don't like to hoard things. Getting rid of them and at the same time making money from it would be good if not donating it to goodwill.

Thanks for the ideas. Holding a garage sale for one can lessen the burdens of accumulated stuff you have at home.
