Theives Took 45 Million in ATM Scheme?

I woke up this morning to this headline from the N.Y. Times. To say I was shocked--nah I wasn't shocked--it was just a matter of time. It almost disturbs me that I am not shocked--but then I have little to no faith in banks or financial institutions anymore especially when it comes to keeping our private info private! Who ever the person (people) who dreamed up this scheme (I doubt we will ever know who the hackers were) have to be semi genius and to be able to hack into banks and change the amount of money which can be withdrawn from ATM's ALL OVER THE WORLD. They mostly used pre-paid cards so that us little people won't actually get hurt. I mean let's face facts-people who have to use pre-paid/debit cards cards really do not have a whole lot of money. My only concern is that the "banks" will try not to give back what was truly the cardholders-IF and that is a big IF-they can figure out what was in there to begin with!!

The guys who got caught actually withdrawing funds--they are not the ones who dreamed this up. It was said that they were busy laundering the money by buying cars and expensive jewelry--I wonder if those companies got hacked so these transactions can not be traced? Maybe they even gave some of the funds to their friends--but like I said--we will never be told the truth, not entirely anyway. Does this sound kind of Robin Hood to anyone else?

I was pretty surprised about this, my husband was telling me about. I seen it online too. Things aren't secure enough any more. Not sure if it sounds like Robin Hood or not but it's Crazy though that's for sure.

Wow that is just crazy. I can't believe people do these things. I agree with you my faith in banks is starting to fail when you think your stuff is safe then bam you realize that it isn't

Unfortunately there is only so much that security can provide on the internet with safeguarding your info. Things are not what they used to be.
