What Should You Do If YOU Get in BIG Trouble in the Big Apple?

Monday, April 22, 2013

If you live in NYC or are visiting and end up getting in a lot of trouble because you are not quite up on the laws and run foul on one or more of them and find yourself visiting a local police station—what should you do? First of all try and stay calm, take a couple of deep, deep breaths and find out just how much trouble you are actually in. Also find out whether it is a civil or criminal offense. At this point you also might want to find out if your car was towed to 11th Street which is in an out of the way area down near the Hudson River! If it is a civil case-like parking in a no parking zone-

be aware you better visit an ATM before you try to get your car back. You will probably not even realize it was towed until you either contact the local precinct or go there. Then call a cab and ask them to please take you there. You will have to appear in court if you want to fight the ticket, otherwise just mail in the amount (make sure you take copies!!). If you have been pulled over and suddenly found out that perhaps you had one drink too many-that is a criminal offense and you had better call an attorney! Because you happen to be in NYC I would strongly suggest you contact a Manhattan Criminal Defense Attorney. They will know the laws and the best way to deal with your situation.

I sure hope I never have any problems when in NYC. Better yet, I'll just avoid cars altogether. I'll take a taxi, walk, or take the subway! lol NYC is crazy as it is, I don't know if I could handle driving in NYC too! Driving in LA is bad enough, can't immagine trying to get around NYC!

Thanks for the information! If I ever end up in NYC I will use these tips. We had an incident when we went to Canada once. You are not allowed to park on the streets (even metered) at certain times of the day. We didn't see the very small sign. There were cars everywhere and we parked only to come back 2 hours later with all the cars gone-ours included. It got towed and we had to walk miles to get it back and had to pay cash.

Great advice. I wish I could visit NYC or anywhere for that matter. Been living in a one horse town all my life. My hubby used to live there though, and it is much different I am sure.

Working with attorneys for many years, you always need one that is able to practice in the area they are needed. Otherwise you pay double because whoever you hire has to hire someone to do the representing in court.

No matter how careful we are, sometimes our good luck runs out. I hope I won't be in this situation though.

Well every state has different laws, for us, we have to make sure we read something or ask someone who is from the place before we pursue with our vacation. That way at least we have some knowledge about the place and once we are there. We have to be observant to the place.
