My absolute favorite character is back in this one, Al DeDuca with his wife DeeDee and best friends Jake and Cassie. Al used to be a security guard for a big mob boss-After his boss died--Al went straight, met and married DeeDee. He became a partner with Jake in their PI firm. Al has a heart of gold--until his protective instincts kick in. One other other about Al--he has not lost his Brooklyn accent!
Well the two couples decided to go on vacation--they really hadn't gone anywhere for a long time. They made sure their dogs were safe in a kennel--and went on a European tour which included train rides between venues and countries. It would have been a really nice trip if a truly dysfunctional family hadn't been on the same tour. Then one night when they were traveling to Italy by train--the matriarch of said family was murdered! She was such a miserable person that any one of her children might have done it. Even though Jake and Al were PI's they refused to get involved!
A street thief made a bad mistake by trying to steal Cassie's Nikon camera while she was walking and taking pictures--uh Al's instincts took over--you will laugh when you hear his reaction as they took him away to jail--and when he got out the next day!!
Meanwhile DeeDee was trying to figure out who killed the mean old woman. She stumbles upon clues and does figure it out. Hey, she didn't want to get stuck in Italy until the case was closed!!
Getting to the truth sent Cassie in many different directions, not all leading to the culprit.
I truly enjoyed this one and those recipes--I wish I was a better cook!!

If I were stuck in a foreign county and couldn't leave until a murder was solved, I would panic. I would be worried about all my responsibilities at home and the funds necessary to remain longer than planned in a foreign location.

ReplyDeleteWell I guess I would have to just deal with the situation...Call home tell them the situation and hope and pray that the murder is solved quickly..Ask my family for a Western Union and see more of the sights... I have some books in my library but have not gotten to them as yet so I do not know who my fav character will be.. maybe I will get to the books by the holidays!

ReplyDeleteI'm new to her books but very excited to find such great sounding reads to my tbr pile. I would most certainly be scared but secretly thrilled as I love mysteries of all types. I would most likely put myself in lots of danger but definitely dive right in.

ReplyDeleteI love this author. I’ve been slowly savoring her books so I don’t run out of them as she writes. If I was stuck in a foreign country, I’d panic. The language barrier I might have between me and someone else would be scary. Not knowing my way around is an even bigger fear. I would hope I could find a cop or someone to guide me as to what to do.
