Book Review - Purple Kitty: A Serena McKay Crime Novel #1 - Chariss K Walker

This is a really DARK dystopian novel. It is a world where very few are rich and most are extremely poor--very little middle class at all. Serena McKay had a horrendous childhood until she was literally deserted by her Mom and ended up in a State run home. Luckily she was taken in my a loving and good couple! She had attempted suicide right before her Mom disappeared--and Serena was left alive but with a super power!

She went on to become a police officer. The male cops really gave any female a hard time and did things that --well lets just say there are ways to stop sexual harassment now! She eventually left the force and became a private investigator. She takes on a case to find a missing child. The abductor is not who you think it is--but there is a serial killer after her--and her green eyes.

This one honestly gave me nightmares. Heaven help us if our world ever really turns out like this. There are scenes that are not for the faint of heart. If you truly love horror and/or psychological terror then this is the novel for you.

About the Book: (from Amazon)

Serena McKay, P.I., won't be your mother's favorite female sleuth. She’s certainly not of the Jessica Fletcher ilk and this is not a cozy mystery. Serena has suffered through devastating emotional and physical abuse. She lives in a post-apocalyptic time where existence is nightmarish at best and disastrously chilling at worst. As a strong, albeit dysfunctionally-flawed private investigator, Serena uses every weapon in her arsenal to solve bloodcurdling crimes in this hard-boiled, dark-fiction, dystopian thriller series All while a notorious serial killer is after her green eyes...

About the Author: (from Amazon)

Award-winning author, Chariss K. Walker, M.Msc., writes both fiction and nonfiction books with a metaphysical and spiritual component. Her fiction expresses a visionary/metaphysical message that illustrates growth in a character's consciousness while utilizing a paranormal aspect. Her nonfiction books share insight, hope, and inspiration. Even though Chariss writes dark-fiction about insanely dark topics, such as sexual abuse, incest, pedophilia, sexual assault, and other inappropriate dinner conversation, there is always an essential question of the abstract nature that gives a reader increasing awareness and perception. The Scoop
By now you're probably aware that the Alex Troutt thrillers, Ivy Nash thrillers, and the soon-to-be-released Ozzie Novak thrillers are all under the same Redemption Thriller Series umbrella. Why? Because, ultimately, they all connect -- Alex, Ivy, Ozzie. How? That's part of the mystery that I'm slowly unveiling throughout the Redemption Thriller Series.

Through each sub-series, characters from different books appear in the other novels. If it adds suspense, intrigue, or even a good laugh, I've included a cross-over character -- it's a lot more fun that way. Plus -- and here's the real kicker -- I'll write a final six novels that brings all of the major characters together -- Alex, Ivy, Ozzie. It will be explosive and gut-wrenching…in a way that will leave you breathless. At least that's my hope.

Starting with IN The End (Nov. 10 release), I'll be launching a new book every 2-4 weeks. IN The End will segue into the Ozzie Novak Thrillers. ON Edge (book 1), is due out on November 28. From there, it will be non-stop suspense until all six Ozzie books are released. And my editor tells me that Ozzie Novak is my best character yet.:) So, I hope you're ready for some thrilling binge-reading.

How can you catch up if you've started the Redemption Thriller Series mid-stream?

$50 in Products from Winning Moves Games-1-US-Ends 2/13

This giveaway is sponsored by Winning Moves Games and hosted by Mom Does Reviews.

I was just taking to my Mom the other day about the fact that I really did not have many toys growing up. But I did have a lot of board games! Monopoly is still my favorite and according to my Mom--she tried to get me to play Chutes and Ladders since she did not really like many of the other games (when I was really young!). There is nothing to compare to a board game, in my humble opinion. Parker Brothers and Milton Bradley have been around for MANY years. I am sure there will be several games that your children and you will be able to pick if you are the lucky winner--no matter their age!!

Book Review-Mask of Duplicity (The Jacobite Chronicles Book 1) -Julia Brannan

This is definitely a series and an author I am going to be keeping an eye on. What a wonderful historical novel and romance. The romance was anything but smooth as our head strong heroine, Beth, was not about to be coerced into a marriage just because her brother needed money! He had been gone for 3 years and besides he really was not a nice person and THAT is putting it mildly!

He bullies her into leaving her home-which he thinks is his now-and they go to stay with some relations who haven't spoken to them in years. Bored out of her mind she decides to go shopping--she climbs out her window and is having a marvelous day until --can't tell you!!

One person keeps showing up--to all the ladies teas etc--he was a real gossiper, popinjay and Beth took an almost instant dislike to him. However he always seems to be there to save her.

The ending will have you gasping at first, then smiling--but I was left with a question. Guess I will have to read the 2nd book in this series to find out!

However, Beth's hopes of a quiet life are dashed when Richard, dissatisfied with his meagre inheritance and desperate for promotion, decides to force her into a marriage for his military gain. And he will stop at nothing to get his way.

Beth is coerced into a reconciliation with her noble cousins in order to marry well and escape her brutal brother. She is then thrown into the glittering social whirl of Georgian high society and struggles to conform. The effeminate but witty socialite Sir Anthony Peters offers to ease her passage into society and she is soon besieged by suitors eager to get their hands on her considerable dowry. Beth, however, wants love and passion for herself, and to break free from the artificial life she is growing to hate. She finds herself plunged into a world where nothing is as it seems and everyone hides behind a mask. Can she trust the people professing to care for her?

The first in the series about the fascinating lives of beautiful Beth Cunningham, her family and friends during the tempestuous days leading up to the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745, which attempted to overthrow the Hanoverian King George II and restore the Stuarts to the British throne.

About the Author: (from Amazon)

Julia has been a voracious reader since childhood, using books to escape the miseries of a turbulent adolescence. After leaving university with a degree in English Language and Literature, she spent her twenties trying to be a sensible and responsible person, even going so far as to work for the Civil Service. The book escape came in very useful there too.
And then she gave up trying to conform and resolved to spend the rest of her life living as she wanted to, not as others would like her to. She has since had a variety of jobs, including telesales, teaching and gilding and is currently a transcriber, copy editor and proofreader. In her spare time she is still a voracious reader, and enjoys keeping fit and travelling the world. Life hasn’t always been good, but it has rarely been boring. She lives in rural Wales with her cat Constantine, and her wonderful partner sensibly lives four miles away in the next village.

In 2014 she decided that rather than just escape into other people’s books, she would actually like to create some of her own, in the hopes that people would enjoy reading them as much as she does writing them. It seems that they do, and she has now published several historical novels, and has also branched out into contemporary fiction too.

Book Review- A Reunion to Remember- (Lainswich 16) - Raven Snow

None of the Greensmith girls had an easy time of it in school--they were shunned and bullied. So when it came time to go to a high school reunion--none of them were very pleased--but the Lanswich Inquirer run by them had to cover the event. There were three women in particular who were a clique back then--and still apparently were that approached Rowen and her cousins pretending to be nice. They did some interviews and were more then ready to leave when suddenly a dead body fell down along with a whole bunch of ballons--it was one of the women!

Ben, the sheriff (who is married to Rose-one of the Lainsich cousins)--asked Rowen to walk the scene to see if she could find out anything using her psychic ability to "talk" to ghosts. No such luck. There was a new detective that was working in the sheriff's department--a total non believer and not a very nice person! He really tried to get in the way of Rowen finding out who committed the murder.

Intuition, rather then witchy powers, and good old fashioned talking to people ultimately got the answer. There were so many suspects and so many secrets in that little town I bet you won't put this one down until the very last page.

About the Book: (from Amazon)

Rowen never much cared for high school. None of her family did. Life in Lainswich was never easy for a girl from the Greensmith family. This was especially true as a teenager. Kids can be cruel and high school can be a nightmare.

Rowen didn’t want to go to the first official Lainswich High reunion. Unfortunately, what she wants doesn’t much matter. The paper she helps run with her cousins is covering the event. That means everyone has to go.

The night is a terrible one, full of old bullies and memories best left forgotten. Things, however, get a bit more exciting when a dead body drops onto the dance floor. It’s someone from her past, she discovers, someone she’s never been particularly fond of. Despite all that, Rowen must still launch herself head first into the investigation. As cruel as the victim may have been, they still didn’t deserve to be murdered… probably.

Finding the answers she needs is going to be a challenge. Not only will she be forced to slog through a sea of all those who bullied her in high school, but there’s also a new detective in town, and he’s intent on making life for Rowen and her family even more difficult than it already is. Oh, well. No one ever said being a Greensmith was easy.

Sixteenth Volume of the Lainswich Witches Mystery Series. Approx. 50,000 words in length. It is a standalone (reading prior or future volumes not required to enjoy the book, no cliffhanger)

Book Review-Gun Kiss-Khaled Talib

Blake Deco not only owns a restaurant, he also uses his special forces background to find and return stolen artifacts to the owners. He does need the money to keep that restaurant running! He usually brings along his side kick, an army buddy--willingly or not. These two will occasionally have you laughing or cringing.

After retrieving the Deringer he gets a phone call from another of his acquaintances in Mexico----a major drug lord has the kidnapped actress Goldie St. Helen--and he knows where she is being held! Deco and friend save said actress. The drug lord is anything but pleased, vows vengence (and to get her back)--a blood bath follows--He wants her back desperately--and will kill anyone who helped or tries to stop him, with whatever means he can dream up--and he has one vivid imagination. When he realizes that Deco and St. Helen have fallen in love--he really goes ballistic.

The characters in this novel are all fully developed and you can feel their emotions. The story flows beautifully--except--
You will probably be wondering throughout this intense thriller what the heck the Deringer that shot Abraham Lincoln has to do with most of this novel. At the end the author weaves it seamlessly back in with a moral that will resound with most if not all of you!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

A stolen piece of history, an abducted actress and international intrigue…

When the Deringer pistol that shot Abraham Lincoln is stolen and ends up in the hands of a Russian military general, covert agent Blake Deco is tasked by the FBI to head to the Balkans to recover the historical weapon. Meanwhile, the United States media is abuzz with news of the mysterious disappearance of Hollywood movie star, Goldie St. Helen.

After Blake’s return from overseas, he receives a tip from a Mexican friend that a drug lord, obsessed with the beautiful actress, is holding her captive in Tijuana. With the help of a reluctant army friend, Blake mounts a daring rescue. What he doesn’t expect is to have feelings for Goldie—or that a killer is hunting them.

Book Review- Best Kind of Love: A Reunion Romance Novella: Sweet Romance Series-Rebecca Talley

This short and lovely novel may make you think back to your high school days--And don't remind me of reunions! A couple of years back I went to a reunion for several years in one--the only reason I went was to see a very old and dear friend who now lives far far away--kind of the reason Brynn ended up going to her class reunion! My year is celebrating the 50th this year--heavens--has it really been that long?
I'm going to try and convince myself to go!!

Friends--both female and male--from our high school days remain in our hearts forever--of course so do some pretty embarrassing moments! Brynn had her share of them and Craig was always there. But it was Troy she had her heart set on--besides Craig was just a friend.

I'm going to tell you to read this clean, engaging novel for yourself to find out what happens!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

Brynn Sawyer is a successful project manager in Houston. When her best friend from high school convinces Brynn to attend their ten-year reunion, Brynn hopes she’ll have the chance to reconnect with Troy Richards, the guy who stole her heart back in middle school.

Craig Dawson, an attorney in San Diego, is in a relationship that’s going nowhere and wonders why he can’t seem to commit. When he sees Brynn at their reunion, he thinks he might finally understand why. The only problem—she’s still infatuated with Troy what’s-his-name.

Will Brynn find the love she seeks with Troy, or will she realize the best kind of love has always been right in front of her?

Plus a big thank you to all of the fabulous blogs helping to promote this amazing giveaway!

I don't know about you but every Valentine's Day it is understood that a flower arrangement will magically appear at my Mom's door! Actually at least a couple appear--her grandchildren sometimes send one--and one of her neighbors does as well! Can you tell my Mom loves flowers?

I have used Teleflora before and have never been disappointed--she hasn't been either. Uh--my Mom will inform me if the flowers did not meet her expectations--she never complained about the arrangements sent from Teleflora. They really do have an amazing selection from which to choose. I try to never get her the same one not an easy feat considering she is 95!

Which reminds me--------I'd better start browsing the site!!
