3 Organizations in the US that Fight Illiteracy

One of the most common problems affecting the world today is illiteracy. This is also a problem which affects a number of states in the US. Fortunately, several organizations were also built in the country to offer help to those who are illiterate. The following are just some of the most popular organizations in the US that aim to reduce the number of illiterate people in the country:

1. Jumpstart – This refers to a natural early education org, which aims to train and recruit college students, as well as members of the community corps. These recruits will be tasked to volunteer their services to preschoolers in neighborhoods with extremely low income.

One thing that makes this organization in the US popular is its high-quality curriculum designed to help kids improve their literacy and language skills. This prepares them for kindergarten and provides them with a path to deal with any educational gap they have. Jumpstart operates in ten states in the US, including Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Illinois and Atlanta.

2. 826 National – This non-profit US organization aims to offer strategic administration, leadership, as well as other vital resources designed to make its network composed of 7 tutoring and writing centers successful. It operates in a number of states including Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Washington and Detroit.

826 National provides various programs, all of which are capable of providing under-resourced students, around six to eighteen, with several opportunities to improve not only their writing and reading skills, but also their creativity.

Each chapter of this organization provides five core programs. These are field trips, in-school programs, young author’s book project, workshops and after-school tutoring. All these are provided for free.

3. Everybody Wins! – This is a non-profit organization in the US, which aims to promote literacy in children. They would also like to promote increased love for learning with the aid of shared reading experiences. In 2015-2016 alone, the organization operated programs within 39 public elementary schools with extremely low income. This helped enrich the lives of over six thousand children.

The staff and volunteers of the organization aim to stimulate the interest of kids in learning. They do so by improving their enthusiasm for books and other reading materials. They also aim to help kids improve their reading, comprehension, vocabulary and listening skills.
