As most of you know I have no children--and you also probably know that I am all about literacy-for both children and adults--so how could I not write a post about this magazine!! I am also of the opinion that Art and Music should never have been taken out of most school's curriculum's. Without the Arts, in all it's forms, true literacy can not be achieved (IMO).
From their site:
"It has been determined that drawing in the early stages of childhood can provide insightful knowledge into the crucial cognitive, physical and emotional development of a child. The actual act of drawing is chosen by all young kids as a creative expressive manner of externalization and engaging the developing intellect and the entire body in general. If you ever opt to simply observe a little one drawing you can notice how his concentration is expressed with his entire body, the activity being one extremely engaging and appealing to young and adults alike. With this idea in mind, Homesthetics in partnership with Designaissance has started the Cool Things To Draw Collection, a creative method of immersing into the colorful world of basic illustrations able to inspire and to offer guidance in creative representations of the imaginative. Cast a glance and stay tuned for more creative fun illustrations coming soon."
There are several DIY illustrations which will show you how to draw a deer, a butterfly on flowers and a Sunflower and a snail
This will be perfect for all you home schooling Mom's out there as well as all other Mom's, Dad's Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles-did I forget anyone? There is even a section on how to get your children excited about drawing. You really have to see this for yourself and they tell me that lots more is coming!
