$100 Amazon GC-Book Review/Spotlight/1st Chapter Reveal-The Black Song Inside-Carlyle Clark-2/28/14

Pump Up Your Book is pleased to bring you Carlyle Clark’s The Black Song Inside virtual book tour December 2 – February 28! Carlyle’s tour is part of a $100 Amazon Gift Card giveaway. To see a list of other participating bloggers click here.

First off I think I'd better warn you that this book uses "street language" and some of it is kind of rough. So, if you prefer not to read these kinds of words-this is not the book for you. The story revolves around gangs, Mexican drug trafficking, drugs, some child abductions and how a PI firm which consists of a Latina woman and an American Black who also happen to be engaged to be married. There are also racial slurs in this book-unfortunately this still does go on. Much of this can still be heard in the Barrios of the cities in the US.

One of the characters in this book is called "The Priest"-he is anything but-almost the exact opposite and has devised a religion of murder and mayhem for which he is looking for acolytes. Somehow he and the Mexican drug lord form an unholy alliance. Our two PI's are in the line of fire and must find out what is going on while attempting not to get killed.

I suggest you read the preview and first chapter of this book before buying-see below! (the language is not bad in these)

I did have some trouble keeping up with this storyline--but was happy at the ending!

About the Book: from Pump Up your Book)

Atticus Wynn and Rosemary Sanchez, newly engaged private investigators, have seen the dark and violent side of life. Nothing, though, has prepared them for an explosive murder investigation that threatens to tear their relationship apart as they struggle to solve a case that could leave them in prison or dead.

Atticus’s manipulative ex-girlfriend bursts back into their lives wielding a secret about Rosemary’s family that she exploits to force the couple into investigating the execution-style slaying of her lover. The case thrusts Atticus and Rosemary headlong into the world of human trafficking and drug smuggling, while rendering them pawns in Tijuana Cartel captain Armando Illanueva’s bloody bid to take over the cartel.

The Black Song Inside is a vivid crime thriller rife with murder and madness, melded with gallows humor and the heroism of two flawed and compelling protagonists who, if they can save themselves, may learn the nature of redemption and the ability to forgive.

About the Author: (from Pump Up Your Book)

Carlyle Clark was raised in Poway, a city just north of San Diego, but is now a proud Chicagolander working in the field of Corporate Security and writing crime and fantasy fiction. He has flailed ineffectually at performing the writer's requisite myriad of random jobs: pizza deliverer, curb address painter, sweatshop laborer, day laborer, night laborer, security guard, campus police, Gallup pollster, medical courier, vehicle procurer, and signature-for-petitions-getter.

He is a married man with two cats and a dog. He is also a martial arts enthusiast and a CrossFit endurer who enjoys fishing, sports, movies, TV series with continuing storylines, and of course, reading. Most inconsequentially, he holds the unrecognized distinction of being one of the few people in the world who have been paid to watch concrete dry in the dark. Tragically, that is a true statement.

His latest book is the mystery thriller, The Black Song Inside.

  19. Why would someone be required to watch concrete dry - in the dark or in the light for that matter? All those jobs you tried might help with dialogue for your stories. I like the idea of a mixed race detective couple.

  45. I read this book and loved it! I am always amazed at how you authors can come up with such idea's to write about and do it in such detail! What goes through your mind when you think of a plot and where does all that detail come from?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Sounds really interesting! I would love to read this. I always wonder how authors come up with the names for their characters (Atticus and Rosemary)?

  47. Hello Everyone - it's Carlyle here again.

    @Jackie - You're welcome and I hope you enjoy the novel.
    @ Mary Beth - Thank you.
    @Linnie - Yes, it's not something you see everyday.
    @ Amy B - I get my best ideas at anytime but I keep a pad and pen by the bed for those night timers.
    @ Mary Bearden - I can't really describe how I come up with ideas because it's just that a situation pops in my head and then I just think organically on what would happen next. If it helps I see it all playing out in my mind like a movie so I just report what I see and what the characters are feeling about it. I'm so happy you enjoyed the book. If you have a spare moment it would be a great help if you were kind of to leave a review on Amazon. Thank you!
    @kb – Thank you.
    @Mystica – I like to think it is, one way to find out . . .:)
    @Jennifer Hiles - I hope you do read and enjoy it and how I came up with the names is sorta tough. I know the characters first and then I just run through names until one fits.
    @tori whitaker – You’re welcome, tori.
