The Battle for Darracia-Michael Phillip Cash-NOW all 3 books in One Volume!!

Tuesday, June 30, 2015

I remember reading each of these books and having to wait for the next--this series is so good it was like torture to wait for each one! Now you can get them all in one volume--you lucky people-no waiting with baited breathe for you--

I definitely like how this author writes. I finished each book in a little over 2 hours. This is from my review of Book 1-and believe me it only gets better with each one. "It is about a mythical world where there are three types of life forms. There are those who live up in the clouds who essentially rule, there are those who live in the tree tops and then there are the outcasts who live on the ground. But times are changing in the land and the King has married a different type of being and they have a child. The King has a brother--hum------Yes, this is a good vs evil type book with lots of action. Your teens will love this one so after you read it--hand it over!"

Book Review-Fishtown: A Jack Regan/Izzy Ichowitz Novel-Neal Goldstein

Plenty of twists and turns in this murder mystery which involves more then your usual cast of good guys, bad guys and government agencies here and from abroad! In this one the bad guys are actually the good guys--sometimes--but not always. This one really kept me intrigued and reading wanting to know who really killed those 4 young woman and how would it end. I guess none of these characters really trusted each other and the ending will have you wanting to know what happens next-------------NOT FAIR--now I have to go find the next in this series!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

It’s been six weeks since the rogue Mossad agents, Nooris and Rabinowitz, were recaptured when their attempt to discover the identity of the person who betrayed them was thwarted by the very individual they were seeking. Homicide Detective Isadore Ichowitz is recovering from the wounds he sustained in the incident when Nooris shot him to convince Vito Coratelli to tell them what they wanted to know. Even though Nooris and Rabinowitz are being detained as terrorists in Guantanamo Bay, Ichowitz is concerned that Shona Cohen, the remaining member of the gang, who is still on the loose, is a continuing threat to the well-being of his godson, Assistant District Attorney Jack Regan and his family.

Jack believes Izzy’s concerns are unwarranted. After all, why would someone who is wanted for murder return to Philly, when her companions are in custody with no chance for release, and she still possesses a valuable post-impressionist painting worth millions, ‘The Pitcher’ by Georges Bracque, that her gang stole from the Barnes Foundation?

Jack’s wedding to Kate O’Malley is only 48 hours away, when all hell breaks loose.

Jack and Izzy are ‘requested’ by the CIA to fly to Cuba to assure the former Mossad agents that the deal the U.S. Attorney offered them in return for information that can lead to the apprehension of the new head of Al Qaeda is genuine. Neither Jack nor Izzy can figure out why the terrorists insist on their presence. Jack barely makes it back to Philly in time for the wedding ceremony. Before he can brush the rice from his hair, he has to put his honeymoon plans on hold to help prosecute a multiple murder case against a doctor who ran an abortion mill in West Philly. The doctor is represented by none other than Vito Coratelli.

Izzy’s retirement from the Philadelphia Police Department is derailed, when the remains of four young women, holding hands, are unearthed in a construction site in Fishtown, an old Philadelphia neighborhood near the banks of the Delaware River, that is fast becoming a destination address for artists, toney restaurants and hip young professionals who follow in their wake. The crime scene reminds the Homicide Chief of a murder investigation Izzy handled 40 years ago.

As Ichowitz delves into the mystery of the Fishtown bodies, and Jack’s involvement in the murder case becomes more complicated, their concern for the safety of Kate and her son Liam becomes real, when Nooris and Rabinowitz are released from custody, and no one knows the whereabouts of Shona Cohen.

Is there a connection between the bodies and the case Izzy handled 40 years ago? Are Kate and Liam in harms’ way? Find out in Neal Goldstein’s new novel, Fishtown, the exciting sequel to Murder and Mayhem in Manayunk.

About the Author: (from Amazon)

I was born and raised, and have lived all my life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I can't imagine a better place in which to spend a lifetime. Yes, I'm talking about Philly, got a problem with that? Where else can you eat a freshly baked soft pretzel with mustard and drown it down with a bottle of Franks, black cherry vishniak soda for breakfast, and eat an Italian hoagie on a crusty roll from one of the bakeries in South Philly for lunch?

The city of Brotherly,( and Sisterly) Love is the setting of my three novels, Murder and Mayhem in Manayunk, The Pa-la-ti-shan (Politician), and Fishtown, ( the sequel to Manayunk). I'm currently working on the third book in the Jack Regan/Izzy Ichowitz series, Northern Liberties, that is scheduled for publication in 2016.

When I'm not writing novels I practice law, (have you ever noticed how many lawyers want to become authors? Just sayin.) Of the two, I prefer writing, since I can get away with murdering someone who annoys me, e.g. other lawyers, judges, etc., without being prosecuted. Anyway, I hope you'll be curious enough to check out my books. People tell me they're fun to read, but what else would they tell me?

Book Review-Death at Gills Rock-Patricia Skalka

Monday, June 29, 2015

It looks like I got my wish (one of them anyway). I wanted there to be a sequel to Death Stalks Door County here is my review and I received it in the mail a week or so ago!

Dave Cubiak has been elected sheriff of Door County. He finds himself embroiled in the very type investigation he thought he had left behind when he left Chicago where he was a homocide detective. What he ultimately finds will shatter the reputation of three war veterans. It takes a lot of digging to get to bottom of this. He is still thinking about Cate who disappeared in the last book and who he misses. She makes a small appearance at the end--but will she stay? Will there be another in this series?

About the Book: (From the Publisher)

After tracking a clever killer in Death Stalks Door County, park ranger and former Chicago homicide detective Dave Cubiak is elected Door County sheriff. His newest challenge arrives as spring brings not new life but tragic death to the isolated fishing village of Gills Rock. Three prominent World War II veterans who are about to be honored for their military heroics die from carbon monoxide poisoning during a weekly card game. Blame falls to a faulty heater but Cubiak puzzles over details. When one of the widows receives a message claiming the men “got what they deserved,” he realizes that there may be more to the deaths than a simple accident.
Investigating, Cubiak discovers that the men’s veneer of success and respectability hides a trail of lies and betrayal that stems from a single, desperate act of treachery and eventually spreads a web of deceit across the peninsula. In a dark, moody tale that spans more than half a century, Cubiak encounters a host of suspects with motives for murder. Amid broken dreams, corruption, and loss, he sorts out the truth. Death at Gills Rock is the second book in Patricia Skalka’s Dave Cubiak Door County Mystery series.

This book will be published on 6/23/15-for more information on where to purchase it go to the author's website.

Book Review-A Broken Life (Paula Mitchell, P.I. Book 2)-Jan Christensen

The first time I read a book by this author was back in 2014--it was "Blackout" (see my review here)which is a gripping story of a girl with total amnesia. I suggest you read it if you haven't already! A Broken Life is a whole lot lighter but no less interesting and readable. I did not read the first in this series and had no problems so it can definitely be read as a stand alone.

Identity theft--it is happening all the time these days and that is what happens to one of the people Paula Mitchell knows from way back when. She bumps into Martha who is now homeless, and at the end of her rope. Paula takes her back to her home and attempts to find out who and what happened--and to get her identity back! The doctor who fired Martha from her last job because the person who had stolen her identity had been arrested is murdered and now there seems to be danger at every turn. Of course Paula has a boyfriend who tries to convince her to stop investigating-----

Will Paula be able to help her friend and keep all of them alive at the same time? Will she uncover who was behind the identity theft? Read the book and find out!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

While in the middle of investigating a domestic case, Rhode Islander PI Paula Mitchell finds an old friend, ragged and homeless. Paula learns that Martha Hendricks is the victim of identity theft. Three years earlier a woman, with ID confirming her as Martha, was busted on a drug charge. After Martha’s boss found out about it, he fired her.

Soon Paula begins to receive threatening phone calls. The doctor Martha worked for is murdered. And Martha disappears--until Paula finds her, beaten and left for dead, in her own backyard.

For two days, Martha is unconscious. As Paula investigates further, she learns more about the doctor’s employees, meets Martha’s old boyfriend, and one of her former roommates. Paula’s suspect list grows. When she’s almost run down in a parking lot, her lover pleads with her to stop her investigation.

Paula refuses. Not only is Martha in danger, but if Paula doesn’t push harder for answers, she knows she’ll be the next person on the killer’s hit list.

Book Review-Father, Son, Stone-Allan H. Goodman

Wednesday, June 24, 2015

This is an extremely well written book which combines fact and fiction seamlessly. It is actually written in the future about the past. Believe me when I tell you you will barely notice!

The scene is Jerusalem both past and present. The question posed and one that must be ascertained by the judge is one that could either start a massive uprising or go quietly into the night.

At the end of the book the author states which is factual and which is his imagination. In a way I truly hope that his conclusion is the correct one--but will we ever really know?

About the Book: (from Amazon)

Father, Son, Stone blends history and mystery to reveal the secret of the most controversial religious site in Jerusalem — known to Jews as the Temple Mount and to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary.

In the year 2035, a grandfather and his grandson enter the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount. The grandfather, speaking Arabic, tells his grandson why Jews no longer pray at the Western Wall below.

The grandfather's story begins in 1967 during the Six-Day War, with three young Israeli paratroopers fighting in the battle for Jerusalem. The tale continues fifty years later, in 2017, after a catastrophic event near the Temple Mount brings
together the same three men — now the Prime Minister of Israel, a Justice on the Supreme Court of Israel, and a Mossad agent. As the crisis unfolds, the three seek to discover the reason behind mysterious events that occurred on the Temple Mount during the Six-Day War. The truth, when finally revealed, changes Jerusalem, and the people who live there, forever.

About the Author: (from Amazon)

Allan H. Goodman is a judge, a mediator, an arbitrator, an educator, and an author of fiction and nonfiction.

His novel, Father, Son, Stone, is a mystery that takes place in Israel and focuses on a historical enigma - why Moshe Dayan returned the Temple Mount to the Muslim authority immediately after the Six-Day War in 1967. The story begins in the future, then sweeps the reader into the past and back again, telling a tale of personal loss, religious and legal conflict, political ambition, and family secrets hidden for generations. The lives of the historical and fictional characters weave various story lines into a page-turning narrative that is timely, informative, and suspenseful. The book concludes with the author's afterword, historical chronology, discussion of the characters, and annotated bibliography that inform the reader about the historical and fictional framework of the novel.

Goodman is the author of two best-selling nonfiction books in the area of conflict resolution - Basic Skills for the New Mediator (2d edition) and Basic Skills for the New Arbitrator (2d edition). These books are used for self-training and as textbooks in conflict resolution programs, colleges, universities, and law schools. He is currently writing another book on mediation - Beyond Basic Skills for the New Mediator - scheduled for publication in March 2015.

Goodman was an attorney in private practice for seventeen years, and served as a private mediator and arbitrator. In 1993 he left the practice of law when he was appointed a federal administrative judge on the United States General Services Administrative Board of Contract Appeals, where he served as a trial judge and an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) neutral in disputes between contractors and the federal government. In 2007 he was appointed as a judge on the United States Civilian Board of Contract Appeals where he continues to serve as a trial judge and ADR neutral.

From 1982 to 1986 Goodman was a lecturer in Government Contracts Law at the TC Williams School of Law in Richmond, Virginia. From 1982 through 1986 he was an Adjunct Professor of Government Contract Law at the University of Virginia (Northern Virginia Extension. From 1987 to 2000 Goodman was an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he taught Construction Contract Law. He lectures frequently on alternative dispute resolution techniques, and currently serves as a guest lecturer in courses in Government Contracts and legal procedure at the George Washington University School of Law.

He is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and the University of Toledo College of Law and a member of the bars of Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

I have read books written by Diana Green before and really enjoyed them (On the Outside and New Sion are futuristic books. Bronze Fox has a lot more fantasy along with science fiction and plenty of action.

When I first started reading this book I thought there might be a book before it--but no-this is the first in the Rifters series. It definitely picks up momentum as it goes and turned out to be a very fast read. It is a fantasy world you are taken to with portals to many other worlds. Originally I thought this might be good for teens until I got to one section--definitely read this one yourself BEFORE handing it over!!

Did I enjoy this novel--thoroughly!! And yes, I am looking forward to subsequent books in the Rifters series. Hey I want to to know how things turn out for our two portal travelers!

NEW RELEASE....

Tobias is a fox-shifter, stolen in childhood from his home-world. Now he works as an agent for the secretive and powerful sentinels, trying to bring an end to the interworld slave trade.

Etty is a street-smart spitfire from the wrong side of the tracks. She harbors untrained magical abilities and a deep longing for a better life. Can she channel these into working as Tobias’ assistant?

Will they survive a life-changing mission where love and danger are only a heartbeat away, and the fate of rift worlds hangs in the balance?

"The way Ms. Green weaves romance into this fascinating situation of rift travel and the amazing settings along the way, is delightful. I appreciate how the various story aspects are artfully combined to make my introduction to “rifting” purely satisfying. I’m SO ready for the next one." - review from Amazon

"Yet another good book by Diana Green. I love how you went a little Sci-fi with the portals and alternate worlds mixed in." - review from Amazon

"The plot moves at a steady pace and grabs you in right from the start." - review from Goodreads
