E-Book-Taken by Love (5)-WW-Rev of Romancing My Love-Melissa Foster-Ends 11/2

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

Now you all know by now that I love reading Melissa Foster's contemporary romances. Romancing my Love was no exception-but it may be my favorite.

Rebecca Rivera took care of her Mom all through her illness until the day she died. Rebecca had to remain strong and in control even though her world was collapsing around her. The last thing she wanted or needed was pity-unfortunately that is what she had herself convinced that anyone who tried to help her was doing-pitying her. When Rebecca literally bumped into Pierce after just quitting her bar tender job and fending off some obnoxious guy she fought the feeling of immediate attraction. Plus-at this point she was literally living in her car until she could get on her feet. One of her friends put her in touch with someone who gave her a job in an exclusive hotel/casino.

Pierce, the owner of that hotel felt an immediate attraction to Rebecca as well when he saw her in a local bar and was not used to being put off by women. Nor was he used to having women tell him that his gallentry was not needed! He was rich and woman usually fell all over him-but this feeling he had for Rebecca was different. Needless to say Pierce was pretty controlling himself which also stemmed from his background.

Could these two ultimately let go of their insecurities and embrace the love they obviously felt for one another? Read the book--I refuse to give up the plot!

NEWLY RELEASED........

Book #9 The Bradens, Love in Bloom Series #18

After months of caring for her terminally ill mother, Rebecca Rivera is left all alone in a world she doesn’t trust—but she’s determined not to let her mother’s death define her. Losing her job, having to pummel some jerk for being too handsy, and living in her car are just temporary setbacks to an otherwise solid plan in finding her footing. Full of pride and used to being in control of her life, she’s certain she can make it on her own. The last thing Rebecca needs is a man to fix her troubles—even if that man is strikingly handsome, wealthy, and charismatic Pierce Braden.

Pierce is a powerful real estate investor on the verge of a major acquisition. As the eldest of six siblings raised by a single mother, he’s spent his life protecting those he loves. He’s used to being in charge and making things right, and although he’d give his life for his family, he treats the women he dates as expendable—until he meets sexy and stubborn Rebecca Rivera, a woman who is as strong as she is vulnerable.

Passion ignites between them, and the two share their most intimate thoughts and desires. It doesn’t take long for Pierce to realize that Rebecca is as determined not to be saved as he is to find a way into her heart. As their love grows, Rebecca must face fears she didn’t even realize she had—and Pierce must learn the hard truth that sometimes less really is more. Is the power of true love enough for Rebecca and Pierce to learn to give up control and allow their hearts to take over?
THE BRADEN COUSINS are the newest addition to the LOVE IN BLOOM series, this is the third of six books.

Review/Giveaway-Pinch Me Therapy Dough-Relaxation in a Pinch-US-Ends 10/31

Monday, September 29, 2014

I think most of us at one time or another had or were given a stress ball. It felt squishy and you could keep pumping your hand around it--or alternately throw it at your boss or annoying co-worker. It didn't hurt them (my boss was a very good catcher) but it did relieve stress! Well, now there is a better way. The folks at pinch me (registered trademark)have created a stress reliever that feels exactly like the play dough you used to love as a child-with a big difference-they have formulated stress relieving colors and scents into each 6 oz tin.

I decided that I wanted to experience "Earth". It arrived quickly and well wrapped. I could smell the aroma even before I took the top off. Off came the top. Now the one I received was a brownish color and the logo Pinch Me was stamped right into the dough. I can't download pics from my camera so Bobbie Anne helped me out-here is what it looks like before you start pinching it.

According to the site the aroma "Earth" "Rekindle the flame in campfires gone-by with the crisp fragrance of the outdoors. A rich, woodsy scent that envelops you with the sensation of the forest. EARTH: for the nature lover in you." To me it smells like Water Lily with a hint of musk. I LOVE the scent. It relaxed me even before I pinched it! The scent will linger on your skin for a bit so I would not suggest putting on perfume unless it has the same undertones. I am considering buying a couple more of these to use as room fresheners. I would love to be enveloped by this scent where ever I go in my home. There are 6 different aromas you can choose from they can be seen (and purchased) at this link.

You can find out lots more about this company and the person who created this by going to their website. and clicking on the tabs up top. And guess what!! We all love companies that give back-here's what Pinch Me does: "*Join us in our quest to reduce stress. Every container you purchase will pay for a soldier's half day stress management training with BootStrapUSA.com"

Would you like to win one of these amazing stress relieving tins? Well one of my readers will be sent one tin of their choice if they are picked by Rafflecopter as the winner of the contest sponsored by Pinch Me who is ultimately responsible for shipping the winner the prize. So fill out the Rafflecopter form--you never know--you might be the winner!

Book Spotlight-Fat Cat at Large (a Fat Cat Mystery)-Janet Cantrell

Friday, September 26, 2014

I actually read and loved this little book. It is a murder mystery but reads like a cozy! It was so enjoyable. The title of this book alone grabbed me--I have a fat cat of my own! She used to be skinny or at least weighed what she should when I first adopted her---but like Quincey she had other ideas when it came to eating and when. I am now awaiting the next book in this delightful series. If you would like to read my entire review of this book CLICK HERE

About the Book: (from Amazon)

FIRST IN A NEW SERIES!

When she’s not dreaming up irresistible dessert bars for her Minneapolis treatery, Bar None, Charity “Chase” Oliver is running after her cat, Quincy—a tubby tabby with a gift for sniffing out edibles. But what happens when this cat burglar leads Chase to the scene of a real crime?

The jig is up for Chase’s adorable plus-size cat, Quincy. His new vet says “diet”—that means no more cherry cheesecake bars. From now on he gets low-calorie kibble only. But one taste of the stuff is all it takes to drive him in search of better things. Quincy’s escape is the last thing Chase needs after the nasty run-in she has with underhanded business rival Gabe Naughtly.

Chase tracks Quincy down in a neighbor’s kitchen, where he’s devouring a meatloaf, unaware of the much more serious crime he’s stumbled upon. Gabe’s corpse is lying on the kitchen floor, and when Chase is discovered at the murder scene, she becomes suspect number one. Now, with a little help from her friends—both human and feline—she’ll have to catch the real killer or wind up behind bars that aren’t so sweet.

Includes recipes for people and cats!

$25 Amazon/PP-WW-The Girl in Black Pajamas-Chris Birdy-Ends 10/26

Thursday, September 25, 2014

I so love this series! Bogie is between a rock and a hard place once again. One of his employees has been shot in the back and he can't tell the police or ask for their help since, well, he doesn't do things legally on the computer all the time. Meanwhile back in Florida his family is involved in a sex scandal--What does he do first? Definite slapstick here!!

Meanwhile his precocious little 4 year old is still at it. She wants to learn the Five-Point-Palm-Exploding-Heart move as seen on Kill Bill--Um--where did she get that movie-that's what Bogie wants to know!! But she is only four and something happens that actually frightens her-but will it slow her down? Have to wait for the next in the series to find that out I guess--there better be a next in this series!!!!!

R&B Investigations is under attack. Their employee is shot in the back as he enters the building, and a hacker is trying to compromise their secure network. While the Boston police investigate the shooting, Bogie McGruder needs to find the culprit who is trying to put them out of business.

Bogie and his partner Rose Jones can’t disclose their internet problems to the cops since Bogie is a hacker himself.

Bogie McGruder returns to Boston with his four- year-old daughter Isabella. He joins up with Rose Jones’ uncle Walter who is fresh for Lompoc Prison. Bogie and Walter strengthen their firewalls while they try to determine who is behind the invasion. As the R&B team hones in on the culprit, they uncover several murders and discover a plot to wipe out the financial institutions in Boston.

While Bogie is in Boston, his extended family in Palm Beach becomes enmeshed in a sex scandal that threatens to ruin lives and careers in the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office.

Feeling like a wishbone about to snap, Bogie tries to handle problems in both cities while Isabella continues her quest for someone to teach her the Five-Point-Palm-Exploding-Heart technique as seen in Kill Bill Volume 2.

This tale of murder, revenge and greed takes the reader on a whirlwind trip from Boston to Palm Beach and back. Buckle your seatbelt!

The Girl in White Pajamas

When Officer Bud the PR face of the Boston Police Department is gunned down, his brother, Bogie McGruder, returns from Palm Beach for the funeral. Since the BPD is investigating the death of one of their own, Bogie believes his trip to Boston will be a short condolence visit and a chance to meet his secret love child.

But interacting with a family fueled by alcohol and mired in scandals, Bogie is reminded why he does investigations for his Boston based company from a computer in Florida. Although Bogie wants to contact his ex-lover, Bailey Hampfield, he’s reluctant to do so since Bailey dumped him four years earlier. Knowing that Bailey had his child after she cut him loose, Bogie ponders how he can establish a relationship with the three year old daughter he’s never met. While he thinks about it, Bailey gets in touch with him and asks for protection. Someone is trying to kill her.

By the time Bogie meets Isabella, it’s apparent that he still loves the mother and adores the child. Bogie tells himself that he’s not interested in the BPD investigation into Bud’s death, but he continues to be drawn into it while trying to discover who is attempting to kill Bailey. The investigations seem to parallel each other, then intersect and become intertwined. As the story develops, Isabella, a precocious child obsessed with martial arts, slowly becomes the focus.

The underlying theme of this mystery is lies. Everyone seems to be running on lies and half truths. The only pure and true character is The Girl in White Pajamas.

About the Author

Chris Birdy was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school, she did a four year stint in the Middle East. When she returned to the States, Chris settled down in the Boston area and became a true Bostonian by collecting college degrees while raising a family.

For more than twenty years, Chris has been a member of the legal community performing investigative work for Boston law firms conducting business in rough housing projects and crack house neighborhoods.  Several years ago, while sitting in a courtroom with a client, Chris watched as a police officer was lambasted by an attorney. The attorney was defending a young woman who crashed her car into two other vehicles before she passed out drunk behind the wheel. The occupants of the other cars were seriously hurt and the cop, a former EMT, tried to assist the injured while waiting for ambulances to arrive. The attorney questioned the cop's every move, shredded his testimony and made him seem inept.
Embarrassed, the cop returned to his seat beside me and muttered, "Everybody lies. The judges lie, the lawyers lie, the witnesses lie.."  Chris wanted to tell him not to worry that in about five years he'd be just as good a liar as they were.
The seeds for The Girl in White Pajamas were planted in that courtroom.

Chris lives outside of Boston and in Palm Beach, Florida with her husband.

Review-Valentia Even Glow Serum

Wednesday, September 24, 2014

According to The Valentia site their serum "will repair, refresh, and renew your skin; restoring evenness to your complexion". Now I am 64 years young but there has been a lot of environmental damage to my face over the years. Luckily I have very few wrinkles, maybe a couple on my forehead. But I do have dry, sensitive skin (with a bit of discoloration here and there). Up until now I did not use moisturizers etc on my face because when I did the "hand test" it would itch and turn red!

When I first opened the bottle of this antioxidant serum the scent of citrus almost overwhelmed me. Luckily the strong citrus scent does not linger so you can still use your perfume. So I put some on my hand. It appears milky when you first use it but it is easily and quickly absorbed into the skin. It also did feel sticky for a minute or two but that stopped and my hand felt like silk. Guess what-even with my extremely sensitive skin-no itching-no redness.

So onto my face it went. I took their advice and dotted it on my face then smoothed it in. I immediately felt the difference-the parts of my face that were dry-weren't and my whole face felt oh so smooth! I've only been using this for about a week and it will take longer then that to repair or diminish the discoloration-but I am patient. At least my face isn't itching or turning red from using this product! They tell me it is going to be a cold, hard winter--this serum may just save my poor old face!!

Now for what they say about the product:

" SUPERIOR INGREDIENTS INCLUDE: Organic Rosehip Oil, Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil, Green Tea Extract, Botanical Hyaluronic Acid, and Resistem (Plant Stem Cells). All ingredients chosen for their anti-aging properties and ability to enhance Vitamin C efficiacy on your face and skin.

EVENS SKIN TONE | INCREASES GLOW & RADIANCE: Vanquish dark spots and revitalize your skin with this new generation Vitamin C serum along with essential fatty acids that leave skin smooth and visibly brighter. Smooth skin capable of reflecting light will give your skin a youthful glow and a brilliant shine for that well-rested and refreshed look.

LUXURIOUS SMELL + ALL DAY HYDRATION - Experience the most addictive Vitamin C Serum on the market today. Non-Watery texture allows for greater coverage with less serum, deeply penetrating and reducing pores by locking in moisture.
REDUCES WRINKLES & FINE LINES: Special ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid and Organic Sea Buckthorn oil work to plump up the skin, reducing wrinkles leaving skin clearer and younger.

BOOSTS COLLAGEN PRODUCTION: The presence of Organic Rosehip Oil and a foundation of 20% Vitamin C increases collagen production so your skin retains the elasticity responsible for a youthful appearance and prevents skin sagging associated with aging. Enjoy smooth and supple skin that takes years off your face.."

Besides the Even Glow Serum that I received to facilitate this review I also received the 44 page, Age Defying Facial Treatments Guide which has lots of great tips!

This product is sold at Amazon and is currently at a reduced price! (of course who knows how long that will last). There is also more information about the various ingredients as well as customer reviews--just keep scrolling down!

Book Review-The Surrogates-Consuella Harris

Monday, September 22, 2014

I had to double check after I read this to make sure this was not a true story! The way it is written is so realistic. I was captured by this book very quickly and never lost interest.

Keith Brown, a private investigator, is contacted by a Judge to look into the deaths of 2 prominent men who died on the same day supposedly of heart attacks. The Judge has her suspicions and wants it checked out. She does tell him why she has suspicions (no I'm NOT going to tell you why!). Keith has been wanting to write a book his entire adult life and thinks this might be a great subject to write about.

Keith literally interviews each group, the Surrogates, The partners in the Lake Shore Planning Group and ultimately some of the children (now adults) several times. Each of the surrogates had her own valid reasons for becoming a surrogate. They were all able to get on with their lives until years later it is discovered that one of the surrogates had twins and nobody had been told.
For several reasons the now adult children of these women have to get in touch-those stories will both break your heart in one case and lighten it in another.

Did Keith Brown discover the mystery of the two men dying? Was it of natural causes--or was it murder? Read this 5 star book to find out!!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

The deaths of two prominent businessmen on the same day of heart attacks is at first declared to be of natural causes. No investigation happens until a former law clerk hires an investigator to check into these murders, and the connection to the Lake Shore Parenting Group.

Three women became surrogate mothers through this group and their children were adopted by five couples. Once the information about their births is revealed to them, it sets in motion events none had anticipated.

The investigation into these families, their lives, and those behind the events changes everything they believe. Yet, there is still a murderer on the loose, unless the intrepid investigator can bring that person to justice.

Book Review-Run For The Money-Jon Gregory

Saturday, September 20, 2014

This is a fast paced novel which I read in one sitting. A story where the bad guys help the good guy, who made a slight error in judgement to catch the greediest of them all! This book will keep you on edge and guessing. Will Travis be able to re steal the money stolen and get it back to the rightful owners? Or will he end up the fall guy? Read this book to find out-you will enjoy it.
I personally can't wait for the next Travis Black novel by this author.

About the Book: (from Amazon)

When 54 million dollars of client funds vanishes in the dark of night, San Francisco stockbroker Travis Black finds he's been set up to take the fall in an international game of high stakes money laundering and deception.

Run for the Money takes Travis from San Francisco to the Caribbean in a race against time before the missing funds are scattered into offshore banks and shell corporations designed to hide money for good.

Enlisting the help of Chaz, a shadowy figure who knows his way through the web of criminal finance, Travis plunges head on in a globe-spanning quest to beat the clock, avoid capture and recover the money. Diamond dealers, femme fatales and high speed chases are just a few of the obstacles Travis and his accomplice must overcome in this international spiral of intrigue and revenge.

Book Review-The Renaissance of Aspirin-Glenn Parris

Thursday, September 18, 2014

This is definitely a fast moving, intriguing novel about drug research and the possible ramification if another pharma company or researcher gets wind of it before FDA approval is obtained and after a LOT of money has been expended on it's creation.

Anita Thomas, a brilliant young researcher, also doctor, has been working for a pharma company on a project that would possibly help fibromyalgia sufferers. Obviously this is hush, hush as are the results from the study groups on patients. Anita literally happens to meet some young medical students working on their PhD at a coffee joint. Their thesis interests her and she decides to help them out. Unfortunately her bosses find out, they fire her--proceed to eliminate the young men and it goes on from there!

She is helped by one of the young men's fathers who happens to be pretty high up in Homeland Security and gets a job as a new resident in an Atlanta Hospital. Jack, Anita's boss at the hospital, knows there is something different about her--but it takes a while for him to figure even some of it out. Meanwhile more of the hospital employees are being murdered--

Do Anita and Jack manage to outwit the pharmaceutical giant and their hired heavies? What happens to Jack after it is all over and where in the world is Anita spirited off to--I fear I am going to have to read the next book to find out that last question-unfortunately I do not know when it is coming out!! A DEFINITE 5 Star for this one!!

About the Book: (from Amazon)

This is the story of Anita Thomas and Jack Wheaton, two young doctors unwittingly in possession of a designer antibody for the treatment of fibromyalgia syndrome. The new drug is effective, but dangerously flawed. The problem is Anita Thomas has developed a cheap, safe alternative agent. Naturally, after expenditure of a fortune in development, the drug manufactures are not at all pleased with her. The pieces unfold, as we follow Anita and Jack from beautiful upscale midtown to the seedier downtown counterparts of Boston and Atlanta over shadowed by deadly stalkers and embellished by amorous often comically frustrating misadventures.

The Renaissance of Aspirin is peppered with industrial espionage, suspense and passion as the chase is on for the first cure for fibromyalgia. Entangled with colorful comrades such as Dasher Clay; Stormi Seales and Khandi Barr in their camp, Anita and Jack barely keep ahead of the treacherous cabal of nemeses; Luciana Velasquez and Jason Brasil led by the Über-villain, Orson Quirk. Paced in the tradition of The Pelican Brief, Coma or a contemporary Maltese Falcon, The Renaissance of Aspirin is both plot and character driven with a ly credible McGuffin at its core. These complex characters are funny, mean, desperate, lonely and at the same time very humanly imperfect. Readers will find their prickly exploits thoroughly entertaining.

Book Review-The Red Queen Dies-Frankie Y. Bailey

Wednesday, September 17, 2014

This is a murder mystery that somehow incorporates Alice in Wonderland! This book is set in the not too distant future mostly in Albany, NY (darn these years are going FAST) where a pill has been invented that makes people forget. Now this is not so bad for people who have experienced traumatic episodes in their life, like soldiers for whom it was actually created. But when a star witness to a double murder takes this pill she can no longer remember what happened and that leaves Detective Hannah McCabe scrambling to find the killer. Meanwhile a Broadway actress is murdered. This actress has the nickname of The Red Queen because she collects everything "Alice". How are these three murders connected-it is up to Hannah McCabe to figure this out--not easy at all!! Just remember this while you are reading "What goes around comes around"--That's all folks. I did enjoy this book and am looking forward to the second in the series.

About the Book: (from Amazon)

Frankie Bailey introduces readers to a fabulous new protagonist and an Alice in Wonderland-infused crime in this stunning mystery, which kicks off an exciting new series set in the near future.

The year is 2019, and a drug used to treat soldiers for post-traumatic stress disorder, nicknamed "Lullaby," has hit the streets. Swallowing a little pill erases traumatic memories, but what happens to a criminal trial when the star witness takes a pill and can't remember the crime? When two women are murdered in quick succession, biracial police detective Hannah McCabe is charged with solving the case. In spite of the advanced technology, including a city-wide surveillance program, a third woman is soon killed, and the police begin to suspect that a serial killer is on the loose. But the third victim, a Broadway actress known as “The Red Queen,” doesn’t fit the pattern set by the first two murders.

With the late September heat sizzling, Detective Hannah McCabe and her colleagues on the police force have to race to find the killer in a tangled web of clues that involve Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, and Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Fast-paced and original, this is a one-of-a-kind mystery from an extremely talented crime writer.

Book Review-The Labyrinth Wall (Obsidian Series)-Emilyann Girdner

I was kind of confused when I first started this book-it made no sense to me. Then after a few pages I caught on and read it straight through! I believe this book is geared to teens but honestly I think parents should read it first. There is a bit of violence. But plenty of lessons that our children should learn as well.

Although this is truly a fantasy world where the Creators literally created the workers and threw them into a dark and troubling world-as an adult I could not help but make some comparisons about the world we live in today where a few have it all and the bulk have next to nothing. I loved how they all learned (the good guys anyway)to over come their differences and band together to find a better life then the one they were living.

I have a feeling that I will be reading the rest of this series just to find out how the escapees make out!!

About the Book (from Amazon)

Araina’s isolated teenage life is forever altered when she witnesses a man emerge through a rippling wall into the dark labyrinth she calls home. As a result of the stranger’s arrival, Araina’s Creators have unleashed a series of magical attacks using the labyrinth against its inhabitants. Now Araina must decide if she will trust potentially deceitful allies in order to reach safety on the other side of the labyrinth wall.

The Labyrinth Wall is the story of a young woman who discovers that although labyrinth walls confine her and her enemies try to repress her, the power of hope can set her free.

Will the walls that confine her be the walls that set her free?

4.7 Star, Amazon Best-Selling Novel.

About the Author (from Amazon)

Though she was born in Germany and raised in Turkey until the age of five, Emilyann Girdner spent the majority of her grade school years in Tallahassee, Florida. She discovered early she had a love for stories. Reading books, watching movies and then acting them out with friends or toys gave living an extra flavor. This is likely why she spent the first part of her college career studying Creative Writing, before switching to Graphic Design and then graduating with a BFA in Digital Art from Missouri State University in 2011. Her writing has appeared on websites and blogs including Center for Work Life, Easter Seals Florida, MU Museum of Art & Archaeology's Musings and Examiner.com. She is best known for her Amazon Best-Selling novel, The Labyrinth Wall. Emilyann is now living and working in Florida.

Given her three focus transitions as an undergraduate, it isn't a shock that she is a multi-medium lover, exploring writing, digital art, photography and design. She finds that her creativity is most fluent when given the opportunity to bounce between artistic outlets.

To truly understand this Author, there are two things to know about her. Emilyann hopes to share a love for others and God in all she does. She believes that imagination sparks beauty in the soul.
