Pool Pumps And Making The Most Of It All

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

There is an amazing bit of work done in the world’s largest theme parks. Places like Disney World have vast amounts of property and the reason is very important. There is more unseen property to the tourist than there is seen property.

The full operations that make all of the parks in the world work are hidden by the scenes. The difference between Disney World and your backyard is the fact that they own thousands of acres and you do not.

Disney Water Parks
www.intercot.com

This means that the small pieces of equipment that make your backyard paradise work can end up being a little obtrusive. One of those pieces of equipment can be the pool pump. Sitting right there in the midst of everything that you have worked so hard to build is this clunky, non-attractive pumping and churning pool pump.

Is this necessary?

While it is necessary that the pool pump exist, it is not necessary that it be ugly and stand out like the one person that did not realize it was a costume party. There are a lot of options and some of them can be very good looking. If you are not even looking to go as far as “good looking”, but just want to make it to a piece that blends in, then that is an option also.

Just take a look at the options and you will likely be very surprised. No matter the look is that you have worked to achieve in your backyard, there is a pool pump that will look right in the midst of it all. This is not just a dream, it is a stark reality.

Most people give up on the pool pump the moment that they realize it is necessary. They believe that there is just no way to find a pool pump that will look good and resign themselves to the fact without even looking.

Another common mistake is to pick the pool pump from the same company as the pool. Not that there is anything wrong with the pool company, but they often do not give the pool pumps more than a passing thought. They know that the equipment is necessary and they stock a base number of models that serve the purpose.

It is a bit like choosing “steering wheel covers” from the auto dealer and counting on them to have a large selection. Looking in the right place can make all the difference and it does. We want you to be happy with everything in the backyard and we ensure that our stock matches a wide variety of looks and tastes.

The Key

The key is to choose everything else first and then to pick the pool pump to match the rest. This is more than possible, it is actually very easy. There are a large number of pool pumps that will match a variety of motifs and they can be had at a fraction of the cost that most people would imagine.

You worry about putting together backyard paradise and then let us put the necessary equipment in there that makes it all work. Like Disney World, let your backyard be one of those places that makes others wonder how you made it all look so natural. You will have them looking for the wires and the strings that makes it all come together.

Pool pumps can blend right into everything else and one of the things that many people find hard to hide is the sound. Not all pool pumps sound like an oil derrick that is about to die. There are very quiet models and there are models that work on a schedule to keep the pool fresh and not be such a hassle. It all depends on what you want and when you want it.

Take a look, take your time and you will surely be amazed at what can happen. There are pool pumps for all looks and for all occasions. It is just a matter of taking the time to see what is available. Enjoy the summer, enjoy the backyard and pretend that it is all a work of magic.

Money Matters

You know that paying off your debt is important—especially if you plan on retiring soon. The last thing you need is to try to finance your retirement with a bunch of debt payments hanging over your head.

But what if you’re just starting out? What if you’re looking for that first job or internship? Shouldn’t you be saving every penny for a rainy day? Can’t your debt payments wait? Isn’t it better to save now and pay off your debt later? Surely making the minimum payment each month is more than enough…right?

Should you save or pay off debt? The questions is something that every person is going to decide for him or herself at some point. The truth is that you can do both at once—you just have to figure out which one is going to take priority.

So how do you do that?

If you’re just starting out, it’s good to get into the habit of saving early. This way you can quickly build up an emergency fund (that can later become a “nest egg”) so that you don’t have to panic if something unexpected comes up.

Saving Tips

1. Save 10% of every paycheck. Put it into savings before you even have a chance to figure out what to do with the rest of the money you’ve earned.

2. Budget more than you’ll think you have to pay. This way if, say, your electric bill comes in a little high you won’t panic. When you come in under budget, put the extra into your savings account.

At the same time, you don’t want to only pay the minimum due on each of your debts. This just stretches out your debt for a longer period of time. It’s the creditor’s way of tricking you into repaying way more than you actually spent. Depending on how much you owe, you could end up repaying two or even three times more than you spent.

So what do you do?

1. Always pay more than the minimum due. Even five or ten dollars more than the minimum due is helpful.

2. Try to pay at least the minimum due plus whatever you get charged in interest and fees each month. Check your statement to find out how much this is.

3. As one debt gets paid off, reallocate its monthly bill payment equally across the debts you have left to resolve.

4. Negotiate for lower interest rates and fees. If you have a steady repayment history, you should be able to do this fairly easily—because the creditors don’t want to lose your business!

Here’s the truth: employers check your credit report now as well as references, your background and your reputation. This is why you can’t simply ignore your debt while you work to save up for your future. At the same time, you don’t want to have to re-use up all of your credit in the event of an emergency, which is why you need to save money as well.
Don’t worry—you can do both. It just takes time and finesse

6 Sun-filled Beach Destinations You Should Visit this Summer

Friday, April 26, 2013

Beach destinations are our reward for a year of hard work. When summer hits and our children are out of school, there is no better vacation plan than visiting one of these incredible beaches.

Tropical Beaches

Image via Flickr by Sjors Provoost

Tropical beaches are filled with sand dunes, weeds, natural wildlife and even crabs. These beaches might feel swampy or woodsy, but they are never surrounded by large metropolitan cities. If you want to really relax and get away from it all, here are the best beaches to consider.

Fort De Soto, Florida

Boggy and charming, this park is rarely crowded and always humid. It is beautiful in a way only the Gulf Coast can be, offering weeds, brackish fish, crabs, and a view of distant Egmont Key. People travel to Fort De Soto if they are local or wise, because it's peaceful and unique.

Anna Maria Island, Florida

This fantastic island has a few quaint shops, but for the most part it's filled with endless stretches of plush white sand and gently rolling waves. Stroll through town and visit the rustic old pier (or even dine on it) before taking a swim in your own mile of Gulf Coast. Anna Maria Island might be difficult to get to, but it's worth the drive!

Key West, Florida

Lush and tropical, Key West is a favorite destination for those seeking out tropical destinations as well as those hoping to party. Key West has great museums, shops, and food. However, if you want a tranquil retreat you can find it on this serene island.

Urban Beaches

Image via Flickr by Alan Light

Younger crowds prefer a beach surrounded by hip nightclubs and fun shopping options. Urban beaches have bars on the sand, boat docks to rent various supplies, and lifeguards. These beaches are best for kid-free travelers.

Delray Beach, Florida

Surrounded by beautiful high-end hotels and luxury boutiques, Delray Beach still offers some reclusive charm. People like the seagrass, two-mile stretch of clear sand for jogging, and affordable vacation rentals.

Clearwater Beach, Florida

Surrounded by skyscrapers and trendy nightclubs, Clearwater Beach is lovely and large. People travel to it from all over the world because of its soft white sands and happening atmosphere. If you're a young single type looking for a memorable experience, then Clearwater is your best choice.

South Beach, Florida

Often considered the sexiest beach destination in the world, South Beach is a glittering wonderland for the rich and famous. However, you might feel out of place if you're wearing last year's shades or traveling in anything less than a current pimped-out vehicle. Visit Williamson Buick GMC Miami for tips on how to ride the roads in fashion. If you pull up next to Beyoncé this summer on the way to Miami Beach, you want to look your best!

It's just a coincidence that all of these beaches are in Florida, but it is a sign that you could find anything you're looking for in a beach destination in the state of Florida. This summer take your family somewhere peaceful and serene. Visit a beach destination and enjoy the natural beauty of the world.

Everest Nutrition-Krill Oil Review/Giveaway-Ends 5/17

This contest is officially over. The winner of the Krill Oil from Everest Nutrition out of 85 comments as picked at Random.org is number 66

Sandy VanHoey said... 66

Congratulations Sandy! Now all you have to do is reply to the email I am going to send you in a few minutes with your full name and mailing address and I will forward that on to the company who will be sending it direct to you.

So what are Krill anyway

According to a National Geographic article I read ( http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/invertebrates/krill/ )

“The lowly krill averages only about two inches (five centimeters) in length, but it represents a giant-sized link in the global food chain. These small, shrimp-like crustaceans are essentially the fuel that runs the engine of the Earth’s marine ecosystems.
Krill feed on phytoplankton, microscopic, single-celled plants that drift near the ocean’s surface and live off carbon dioxide and the sun’s rays. They in turn are the main staple in the diets of literally hundreds of different animals, from fish, to birds, to baleen whales.
Simply put, without krill, most of the life forms in the Antarctic would disappear.”

Photograph by George F. Mobley

Omega 3 essential fatty acids are DHA and EPA. Both Krill and fish oil are a source of these important Omega-3 fats. As I am sure you have read and been told Omega-3 fats can really help you lower your cholesterol and generally improve your health. There has only been one test preformed so far in the comparison of fish oil to krill oil that I could find.

In addition to DHA and EPA Krill Oil contains, according to an article I read in About.com-Alternative Medicine (http://altmedicine.about.com/od/herbsupplementguide/a/krilloil.htm) , an antioxidant called astaxanthin which regular fish oil does not.

“Another reason krill oil is becoming popular is because it contains an antioxidant called astaxanthin. The algae that krill eat produces the bright red pigment astaxanthin that gives krill and other crustaceans such as lobster and shrimp their reddish-pink color.

Antioxidants protect our body cells from damage from free radicals, unstable substances that are thought to contribute to certain chronic diseases. Unlike many other antioxidants, astaxanthin crosses the blood-brain barrier, where it could theoretically protect the eye, brain and central nervous system from free radical damage.”

From everything I have read—not only on Everest Nutrition's Site—Krill Oil seems to give you more then regular fish oil. They guarantee the purity of their product and give a money back guarantee amongst other things. You really have to go to their site and read all about it! If I was able to take any kind of Fish oil or Krill oil (I, unfortunately am allergic to shellfish!)-I would definitely go with Everest Nutrition and their Krill Oil.

Side Effects

• According to ehow.com “side effects of krill oil can include bad breath, heart burn, upset stomach, nausea and loose stools. It is contraindicated in those who are allergic to seafood and for patients scheduled for surgery, since it can increase the risk of bleeding.” Always consult your physician before taking any over the counter supplements.

Everest Nutrition has been kind enough to offer one of my readers a bottle of Krill Oil—Please remember to put your email into every comment you make so that I can contact you if you are the lucky winner.

Handmade Rugs That Are An Investment- Cleaning and Repair

Thursday, April 25, 2013

Persian and oriental carpets and area rugs can run thousand’s of dollars. They are a large investment which you will hopefully have for many, many years. Some of these carpets are even handed down to future generations. Most of these very beautiful and expensive rugs were made by hand. They tend to be rugged but after a number of years they may begin to show wear and tear, at the very least you will want them to be cleaned so that the original beautiful patterns and colors show true. You have to be careful to choose carpet cleaners who are reputable.

If you live in or near the NYC area there is a company that specializes in services for these type floor coverings that has been in business since 1990. They not only sell Persian and Oriental hand made rugs but they can also clean, repair and restore them to their original condition. In their dedicated rug cleaning facility they can reweave, repair and of course clean your carpet. In addition to Persian and Oriental rugs they can also service Chinese, Afghan, Silk, Wool and Handmade rugs.

They also do Mattress and upholstery cleaning. What I like most is that no matter what they are working on only the most environmentally friendly cleaning agents are used. Thus your family and your pets will not get sick from residual fumes.

Are Faux Wood Blinds Part of a Bygone Era?

Wood and faux wood blinds are a great choice for creating the privacy you expect from a window treatment, as well as allowing the light to flow into your home. Both types of blinds are a hit with decorators because they easily brighten and update a room. However, there are many advantages for choosing a faux wood blind versus a wood blind, which demonstrate that they belong.

1. Cost: Faux wood blinds cost significantly less than real wood blinds. Saving money on blinds is always a good thing and can keep your decorating costs to a minimum. Many consumers agree that the faux wood blinds look exactly the same as the wood blinds especially when you choose a painted faux wood. Faux wood blinds can be painted in a variety of color choices.

2. Durability: Faux wood blinds can withstand the abuse of direct sunlight, drastic temperature changes, condensation and humidity. Wood blinds are much more susceptible to warping, chipping and fading. The hardware and installation are also similar to real wood blinds.

Your window treatments will be able to last for many years and look as good as the day you installed them. You can also repaint your faux wood blinds if you wish to update your room's design. Real wood requires diligent maintenance where faux wood is a little more resilient and easier to maintain and clean.

3. Easier to Clean: Because faux wood is OK to get wet you can easily clean them. Real wood blinds can ruin if they are sprayed with water and may warp and look discolored. Depending on the faux wood and the manufacturer’s instructions, you may even be able to spray the blinds off in the shower or water hose and hang them back up to dry. This is by far the easiest way to clean blinds.

4. Choice of Custom Blinds or Factory: As with real wood blinds you also have a choice of having your blinds made custom for your window and style or you may purchase already factory made styles in a variety of sizes. This option allows you to change features such as tilt handle styles or even remote control options for your blinds. The variety of a custom blind is endless.

5. Environmentally Smart: Using faux wood helps save trees. There are many trees that are endangered and those trees are not a renewable resource.

Many people who have purchased both wood and faux wood have said that they cannot tell the difference in their blinds. Faux wood is a great decorating choice for updating your windows.

How to Clean Up Your Social Media Accounts Before Applying for Jobs

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

Background checks are just the beginning for today's job seekers. Many employers now look into applicants' social media accounts before they make a hiring a decision. If your social media profiles paint a very different picture of yourself than what you want employers to see, you may need to do some digital cleaning before you begin the job search.

Comb Through Your Photos

Image via Flickr by philosophygeek

A survey of over 2,300 hiring managers revealed that of those who looked at applicants' social media pages, nearly half had rejected someone due to inappropriate photos or information. If you have pictures that depict drinking, drug use, partying, or sexually suggestive poses and attire, you should delete these immediately. Nothing presents a more unprofessional image than graphic photos of your personal life.

Update Your Profile Picture

Updating your profile picture to something that's professional is a simple step that will improve the entire look and feel of your page. Forget silly self-taken photos and opt for something that you wouldn't mind featuring on a company website. Your photo should show you as you want potential clients and bosses to see you.
Proofread Your Posts

More than a third of hiring managers who looked at social media sites passed up an applicant because of poor grammar and communications skills. If your tweets overflow with text message shorthand and slang or your Facebook and Google+ posts have blatant grammatical and spelling errors, you need to correct or delete them. You're judged not only by what you say but how you say it.

Consider the Content

The content you post is as important as the grammar. Badmouthing previous employers resulted in an immediate rejection for 33% of surveyed hiring managers. Twenty-eight percent of hirers saw prejudices about race, religion, or gender as cause to drop an applicant. The content on your social media pages should support the professional image that you want to project. Avoid controversial topics or offensive posts of any kind.

Be Very Thorough

Look over all of your social media accounts and comb through your profiles carefully. The books and movies you like, blogs you follow, and friends you have may all reflect upon you either positively or negatively. LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ are all prime targets. While you don't need to tailor every aspect of yourself to your job, you do need to censor anything that conflicts with it. Resources like Reputation.com on Facebook can help you avoid major faux pas and present the proper image.

Understand Your Privacy Settings

Not all social media accounts are public, so make sure you understand what your potential employers can and can't see. If you still want to keep up an account for your outrageous pictures and racy anecdotes, consider doing so under a different name with a profile picture that's not easily identifiable as you.

In a world where privacy is often a thing of the past, you can never be too careful about what you put online. Assume that your boss and parents will see everything you post for the best protection from big blunders.

Learning to Love to Read

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

It is so important to teach your child to love reading. Starting at a very young age by reading to them and having them interact with you and the story is integral to this process! For infants there are cloth books that you can read to them with bright pictures which they can hold and touch. As they get a bit older—pop up books can be lots of fun and will keep their attention. Even if you don’t think your child is learning-they are. They are drinking in the information you are relaying as you describe what is happening in each book. As they get older and perhaps have a shorter attention span there are books that will help.

Children of a certain age group tend to be self centered (totally normal!) and if you start getting books which use the child’s name-it will certainly be a hit. Personalized books come for all age groups (even infants!) in all sorts of topics that will help your child learn about various lessons and keep them entranced, even if they are not into reading. For example, if for some reason your older child is jealous of a younger one-there is a book “What do Sister’s Do Best” to help a child learn that there is good in everyone! Most everything can be personalized with your child’s name these days. So, whether you are buying for your own child or as a gift, think personalization.

The Fairy Hobmother Paid ME a Visit!!

I was so surprised and honored when I got the email from the Fairy Hobmother this morning!! I honestly do not know how he got my name but if one of you out there recommended me--THANK YOU! It could not have come at a better time. As most of you know I am still looking for a job and as a result things are kind of tight and I have been bordering on depressed. This put a smile on my face. The Amazon gift certificate I will be receiving is very much needed and without saying appreciated. I also always try to do at least one random act of kindness a day and will continue to do so-it makes my heart glad to know that there are others who do the same.

I was told that he reads every comment and sometimes picks the next person that way. Thus if you would like a chance at being the next recipient of his generosity-comment on this post.

But most of all remember--even the smallest of gestures can make a person day.

Thank You Fairy Hobmother from the bottom of my heart.

Where Do You Recycle Books?

As everyone probably knows I do a LOT of book reviews and book review/giveaways!! At the moment I am SWAMPED in books I have already read. They are in my living room, dining room, bedroom, on the floor (thanks to Baby who likes banging them there to wake me up!). There are a couple of books that maybe I will save for a second reading or to giveaway on my blog—but the rest? And for the icing on the cake—I have somehow hurt my rotocuff thus it is not easy for me to lug them around to various places. I WILL NOT THROW THEM OUT!!! Too many people can not afford to buy books and I have always believed that books and the reading of them is possibly the best thing that anyone can do.

You would think it would be easy to donate books—Well, the last time I had to fight with the local hospital to take a bunch and my local library only takes them at certain times of the year! This morning I went on an internet search for places in my area that take book donations. I did find some places not too far from where I live and the type of place actually surprised me! I will be calling them early next week to see if they want some books.

SOME IDEAS FOR WHERE YOU CAN DONATE BOOKS

The 3 Hospitals listed are not that close to me—but always try hospital volunteer departments that are near you—you never know!! Some hospitals actually have a book cart that the patients can borrow (or take home) to read.

The Salvation Army is always a great place to contact-I will have to call the store near me to see if they are still accepting books and if they pick up! (1-800-SA-Truck)

Neighborhood Health Centers and Open Door Family Centers-This one surprised me and there are 2 near where I live.

The VA also accepts books and I may give them a call—the only problem being that you have to leave the box outside and they will not give you a specific time-not good for where I live. ( www.pickupplease.org )

Check your local library—sometimes their volunteers have book sales.

At least I now have a starting point—and so do you!!

***I was driving to a client today and what did I spy? A collection bin for BOOKS!! Now why did I never notice that before!!

What Should You Do If YOU Get in BIG Trouble in the Big Apple?

Monday, April 22, 2013

If you live in NYC or are visiting and end up getting in a lot of trouble because you are not quite up on the laws and run foul on one or more of them and find yourself visiting a local police station—what should you do? First of all try and stay calm, take a couple of deep, deep breaths and find out just how much trouble you are actually in. Also find out whether it is a civil or criminal offense. At this point you also might want to find out if your car was towed to 11th Street which is in an out of the way area down near the Hudson River! If it is a civil case-like parking in a no parking zone-

be aware you better visit an ATM before you try to get your car back. You will probably not even realize it was towed until you either contact the local precinct or go there. Then call a cab and ask them to please take you there. You will have to appear in court if you want to fight the ticket, otherwise just mail in the amount (make sure you take copies!!). If you have been pulled over and suddenly found out that perhaps you had one drink too many-that is a criminal offense and you had better call an attorney! Because you happen to be in NYC I would strongly suggest you contact a Manhattan Criminal Defense Attorney. They will know the laws and the best way to deal with your situation.

Book Review - Changing Lanes – Kathleen Long

Sunday, April 21, 2013

This is one of those books that is bound to remind you of sometime or something in your life. That point where everything is going crazy and all the plans you have made are being shattered; that period of insecurity and indecision when you to have to re think and possibly re make your entire life. That time when you realize it is time for a change-even though you didn’t expect it to happen. And when the sand settles and you finally realize that maybe it really all was for the best. This happened to me a couple of times in my life, as a matter of fact it is happening right now! Just remember there is a rainbow after the storm. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will probably read it several more times! It is a fictional novel which depicts real life!

From the back of the book:

Abby Halladay has the perfect life. Or, rather, she will…as long as everything goes according to plan. Abby never leaves anything to chance –not her job as a syndicated columnist, not her engagement to her fiancé, Fred, and certainly not her impending wedding in Paris (New Jersey, that is).

Unfortunately for Abby, even the best laid plans often go awry—like when Fred runs away to Paris (France, that is), her column is canned, and her dream home is diagnosed with termites. Forced to move back in with her parents and drive her Dad’s cab, Abby finds that her perfect life has now officially become the perfect disaster.

Then a funny thing happens: slowly but surely, Abby begins letting go of her dreams of perfection. As she does, the messy, imperfect life she thought she never wanted starts to feel exactly like the one she needs.

Poignant and heartfelt, Changing Lanes celebrates the unexpected joys of everyday life—and the enduring promise of second chances.

This book will be on-sale on 5/14/13 at Amazon, it can also be ordered ahead of time

About the author:

After a career in PR spent spinning words for clients ranging from corporate CEOs to talking fruits and vegetables, Kathleen Long finds great joy spinning words for fictional characters, places and plots. She is an award winning author of over 14 novels.

A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Kathleen now divides her time between suburban Philadelphia and the Jersey shore. When Kathleen is not busy writing her next book, she spends her time bribing her little one to pick up her toys, begging the dog to heel, and experimenting with jewelry design.

Just in Time for Mother’s Day Jewelry Giveaway-Ends 5/5

Miki's Hope is happy to join in with Adventures of My Family of 8 and Blog with Mom in this Advertise with Bloggers Event!

Just in time for Mother's Day, Giveaway Event!!!

There is nothing in the world like giving or receiving a one-of-a-kind piece of handmade jewelry, especially on Mother’s Day!

I still remember the Mother's Day gift I bought for my Mom the first Mother's Day after starting to work for the first time. I bought the hand strung beaded necklace with matching bracelet in a tiny store in Greenwich Village. It was a one of a kind and hand made. She loved it and still occasionally wears it after 40 plus years!! I have never been able to replicate that gift or the feeling I got when her eyes filled with tears.

We are excited to introduce you to the wonderful Little Miss Pepper Designs, that are based on the sentiment of expression. Stacey Bradshaw wanted to create designs that express our love for our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, husbands, dads, and friends. Her customized, hand- stamped jewelry gives you the opportunity to show the world the joy that love has given you. Wear your love every day!

Stacey has been creating jewelry for over fifteen years and her designs have evolved with time. From her first piece, which was a bridal set for a friend to the pieces she has made for her growing family, including key chains, collar stays and cufflinks for the men.

Using only the finest quality Sterling Silver, 14k Gold-Filled, Semi-Precious Stones and Freshwater Pearls, she truly designs unique one-of-a-kind pieces.

So this Mother’s Day, Graduation, or any other special event, I would suggest allowing Little Miss Pepper Designs the honor of creating something that you will love to wear or give to someone special.

WIN IT - a Just in time for Mother's Day Giveaway Event!!

Prize - Winners choice of Blue Love in Sterling Silver on 18 inch chain (Value $125) or Blue Love in 14k Gold Filled on 18inch chain (Value $145)
