Top 7 Family Activities to do When Traveling to California this Spring Break

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Whether your destination is northern, central or southern California, families have a spectacular variety of activities to choose from. Here are some ideas for whatever part of the Golden State you're planning to visit.

1. Adventures in San Francisco

San Francisco has lots to offer traveling families. The San Francisco Zoo is home to over 250 species of animals, an easy day trip for kids of any age. This city also features one of the few cruise ship ports in the country, an ideal place to embark on a cruise to Alaska or the Canadian coast. Celebrate the 49ers Superbowl appearance at Candlestick Park or visit one of the area's superb beaches.

2. Activities in San Luis Obispo

Spring Break is an exciting time to visit SLO. The Arroyo Grande Strawberry Festival features a street fair, arts and crafts, a carnival for kids, live entertainment, rides and games. The SLO Mini Maker Fair is a celebration of arts and crafts, engineering and Technology. The fair will also offer music, food and entertainment. At the Flavor of SLO 2013, the family can taste foods grown and prepared on the Central Coast. For the adults, the Festival of Beers is the largest and oldest beer festival in California.

3. Take in the Beauty of Yosemite

Yosemite National Park is most beautiful in the spring, after the winter frost and before the heat of summer sets in. Enjoy 1,200 acres of glaciers, waterfalls, valleys, meadows, and sequoia and wilderness areas. Camping, fishing, hiking and biking are excellent ways to enjoy this treasure with the entire family.

4. Wonder at Mammoth Mountain

Fresh, crisp air and wildflowers galore - these are just a few of the things awaiting you in the Mammoth Mountain and Mammoth Lake areas. For Spring Break, some of the ski resorts are offering student discounts. With over 300 days of sunny weather per year, this is a great location to avoid the potential of a rain spoiling your vacation.

5. Unwind at Huntington Beach

If a good break for your family is plopping on a beach instead of running around sight-seeing, consider Huntington Beach. This is a safe family beach with great surf, and the parking is convenient for carrying coolers, diaper bags and strollers. It also offers lots of dining and shopping venues in a friendly atmosphere.

6. Stray Just Outside San Diego

Torrey Pines Nature Reserve offers everything from wilderness wonders to beach fun. It's filled with pine forests and sandstone canyons, complete with hiking trails. Reward dad with a round of golf at the world-famous Torrey Pines Golf Course or treat the entire gang to BNP Paribas Open Tickets.

7. Laugh it Up at LEGOLAND

Between San Diego and Los Angeles, LEGOLAND beacons little boys and girls from everywhere. This 128 acre theme park features rides, a roller coaster, the mysterious dark ride and (best of all) lots of wonderful things made of Legos. See a miniature ancient Egypt built in Legos where kids can learn while they play.

No matter what part of California your family heads to this Spring Break, tons of great activities are waiting on you.
