Small Kitchens and Coffee Makers for Single People

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

Because I am single I do not own a large coffee pot. I used to but once I moved to my apartment with my little walk through kitchen—well space is at a premium. If I am at home I can drink up to 4 cups or more a day. Years ago my Mom bought me a Melitta one cup plastic cone. I use it all time but----you have to make sure you have number 2 cone filters. (Number four cone filters will work in a pinch but you have to be really careful or the boiling liquid will end up burning you-I know!!) Then you have to wait until the water boils. You then stick the filter into the cone-some ground coffee into the filter-place over your cup-pour in the boiling water and wait for the water to drip through. I generally rinse off the plastic cone immediately. That does not mean to say that I haven’t been looking at those new machines that make coffee with virtually no clean up by the cup. Most work places have them now—but they have always been too large for my kitchen!

One of my friends who loves a good cup of Latte with frothed milk sprinkled with cinnamon bought a home espresso maker with an extra froth attachment. She loves it—and I have to admit—that coffee was good. But again—it was too large. I do need some room to prep my dinners!! I also like a variety of different coffees and these models have all different flavors. I also like different types of coffee depending on my mood—I can live without the froth attachment although I probably would use it. So began my internet search for a slim model or at least one that didn’t take the entire counter space!!

Companies are finally coming out with slim models!! I know Macy’s has lots of coffee makers as does Sears and several other stores near me—I think I will now go shopping and see if I can find one on sale (I will be keeping my eye on the internet as well, but call me old fashioned, when it comes to electronics of any kind, I want to see it and feel it before I buy it—until then—I will have to continue to use my one cup plastic cone!

My husband is the only one that drinks coffee as well and we don't have a large coffee pot. Father's Day is coming up and you've given me a great idea for a gift. Thanks for sharing.

I love these little single person brewers, and yet I would never be able to own one, my coffee habit is expensive enough already, lol Ihave been considering different ones for maybe when guest come over to have many options. I personally like straight black strong coffee..

I used to have a single pot coffee maker. I used those things made to hold loose leaf tea because I could not find filters anywhere that were not outrageously expensive. If you ever need a back up, the thing for tea thing works great. Nobody wants to be around me if I do not have coffee.

I enjoy a good cup of joe in the morning. I used to have one every morning after I got my coffee maker. Since I started "dieting" I've cut back drastically. My mom still drinks a few cups a day though. I got her hooked.

I am with you about smaller coffee makers. I have a pretty small kitchen and my counter space is full! I have to do everything on my kitchen table.

That is good to know :-) I drink coffee sometimes but I want it strong and usually I like the coffee from Colombia. I just like the taste of it. Cafe' du monde coffee in New Orleans is the best coffee too paired with the beignet... yummy.
