Campus Book Rentals & Operation Smile

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

I remember distinctly when I went back to college how much the books cost. I was going for an Environmental Science degree where the emphasis was on science not politics!! Between Biology, Chemistry, Genetics and the various assorted other classes I must have spent over $4,000.00 on books alone! We were not able to buy second hand books for the science classes—the professors changed the edition each year. Oh how I wish Campus Book Rentals had been a company back then-but they did not come into being until 2007. If they had been around the Genetics book that cost me approx 45.00 would only have cost $18.08!! Go check it out!!

Now you can RENT your books? Yup—you read that correctly—you can rent that book at the beginning of the semester, highlight as much as you would like, and return it at the end, after final exams. And there is a 15 to 30 day grace period just in case! Shipping is free both ways. And there is a 30 day money back guarantee in case you decide not to take that course or the professor decides to use a different book! (Especially if the publisher came out with a newer but not much different edition, which seemed to happen to me constantly) If by chance you decide you really, really want to keep the book—all you will have to pay is the difference between the rental and the retail cost. What a GREAT deal and a definite money saver!

So you ask, how does this work? Just watch this video and find out!!

And starting 2012 they have a new program to help out our students and their parents

“We’ve also set aside $90,000 in textbook scholarships to be distributed to students in communities just like yours. That’s a lot of books, and we hope to touch a lot of students who could use a hand.

So add that extra book to your cart. When you rent textbooks from us, you make a difference.”

Go on in and browse around it is truly amazing-I wish they had this kind of place when I went to college!
And what I really like is they also have a heart!

The children of Operation Smile

”2012 is a new year, with a mix of old and new in our making a difference program. First off, we’re keeping our partnership with Operation Smile. They are an awesome organization that performs life changing cleft lip surgeries on children whose families could not otherwise afford it. The long term improvement in quality of life for the children that receive these surgeries is almost incomprehensible. We’re honored to support the children of Operation Smile.”

So go in right now!! And please be sure to tell everyone you know!

We just discovered renting college books. Just seems the hard copy ones are so expensive and to only use them once... Thanks for posting this information. I am sharing it with my homeschooling group.

Renting text books is the way to go nowadays - especially if it's a book you know you're not going to want to keep. I think back when, I bought all mine, but I certainly recommend renting them today! Great post.

One of the things I look at when choosing a text for my students is price. It makes a big difference to the students. Thanks for participating in the Thirsty for Thursday hop! Hope to see you again next week.

What a great company! I have countless books from my college days that I absolutely refuse to get rid of because I can't get anywhere near what I paid at a second hand bookstore and I've been unable to sell them online for what I feel they should go for. It's more a matter of principle. Maybe, just maybe, there will be a day when I'll desperately need the information they contain and will have the opportunity to dust them off and put them to use again.

I think the scholarship fund is an excellent idea. Some students aren't able to go to their parents for help in paying for books and end up working to pay for them on their own. This can take away from their time needed for studying and completing assignments.

This is a great idea! I still have some of my college books that I haven't even been able to sell yet! These books cost a ton of money to only use for a little bit!
