Should I Really Join Facebook (a really good laugh)

Friday, July 29, 2011

A woman on the internet I know posted this to all the groups she is in--she told us her Mom sent it to her--this is too good not to pass along!!!!!

Should I Really Join Facebook?
Read it all the way through! It's a good laugh! AND really quite true!!

A good laugh for people in the over 50 group !!!
When I bought my Blackberry, I thought about the 30-year business I ran with 1800 employees, all without a cell phone that plays music, takes videos, pictures and communicates with Facebook and Twitter. I signed up under duress for Twitter and Facebook, so my seven kids, their spouses, 13 grand kids and 2 great grand kids could communicate with me in the modern way. I figured I could handle something as simple as Twitter with only 140 characters of space.

That was before one of my grandkids hooked me up for Tweeter, Tweetree, Twhirl, Twitterfon, Tweetie and Twittererific Tweetdeck, Twitpix and something that sends every message to my cell phone and every other program within the texting world.

My phone was beeping every three minutes with the details of everything except the bowel movements of the entire next generation. I am not ready to live like this. I keep my cell phone in the garage in my golf bag.

The kids bought me a GPS for my last birthday because they say I get lost every now and then going over to the grocery store or library. I keep that in a box under my tool bench with the Blue tooth [it's red] phone I am supposed to use when I drive. I wore it once and was standing in line at Barnes and Noble talking to my wife and everyone in the nearest 50 yards was glaring at me. I had to take my hearing aid out to use it, and I got a little loud.

I mean the GPS looked pretty smart on my dash board, but the lady inside that gadget was the most annoying, rudest person I had run into in a long time. Every 10 minutes, she would sarcastically say, "Re-calc-u-lating." You would think that she could be nicer. It was like she could barely tolerate me. She would let go with a deep sigh and then tell me to make a U-turn at the next light. Then if I made a right turn instead. Well, it was not a good relationship.
When I get really lost now, I call my wife and tell her the name of the cross streets and while she is starting to develop the same tone as Gypsy, the GPS lady, at least she loves me.

To be perfectly frank, I am still trying to learn how to use the cordless phones in our house. We have had them for 4 years, but I still haven't figured out how I can lose three phones all at once and have to run around digging under chair cushions and checking bathrooms and the dirty laundry baskets when the phone rings.

The world is just getting too complex for me. They even mess me up every time I go to the grocery store. You would think they could settle on something themselves but this sudden "Paper or Plastic?" every time I check out just knocks me for a loop. I bought some of those cloth reusable bags to avoid looking confused, but I never remember to take them in with me.

Now I toss it back to them. When they ask me, "Paper or Plastic?" I just say, "Doesn't matter to me. I am bi-sacksual." Then it's their turn to stare at me with a blank look. I was recently asked if I tweet. I answered, No, but I do toot a lot."

P.S. I know some of you are not over 50. I sent it to you to allow you to forward it to those who are.

Us senior citizens don't need anymore gadgets. The tv remote and the garage door remote are about all we can handle.

Whats My Name?

The manager of a large office noticed a new man one day and told him to come into his office.
"What's your name?" he asked the new guy.

"John," the new guy replied.

The manager scowled, "Look... I don't know what kind of a namby-pamby place you worked before,
but I don't call anyone by their first name. It breeds familiarity and that leads to a breakdown in authority.
I refer to my employees by their last name only ... Smith, Jones, Baker ...
That's all. I am to be referred to only as Mr. Robertson. Now that we got that straight, what is your last name?"

The new guy sighed, "Darling. My name is John Darling."

"Okay John, the next thing I want to tell you is . . . "

This Has Really Changed My Life

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

All my life I have struggled with everything. I struggled with school work, getting good grades, making friends, finding a good job and my weight. I have been on the never ending weight roller coaster it seems like. I was chunky all through my child hood, then lost weight after I turned 20 then gained a ton of weight after my 3rd child was born, then lost it again, then gained it back and OMG it is has just been awful.
One thing I always noticed though is that no matter how healthy I ate, or how much I worked out or how much sleep I got, I was always really tired and sluggish through out the day and have been like that for many years, even after losing weight
Well not anymore. I found something that has really changed my life. I know most of you saw my post about starting with a company called Plexus Slim back at the end of April. I couldn't believe that after doing a review for a friend and using the product for  9 days I had lost 6 pounds. Well I naturally researched the company, and since I also struggle financially decided to join up as an Ambassador to try and bring in some extra money.
Well Now we are 2 1/2 months later and I couldn't be more happier. This product and business has really changed my life. I am not just saying that either. I mean for real. I am down 32 pounds, 18 inches (from all over my body) and 3 pant sizes in just this short amount of time. Just look at the picture below, and you can tell from the time stamp that this was just taken a few days ago.
Yes this is really me and yes those are really my shorts lol. They were my sleeping shorts actually up until the other day because now I cant get them to stay up!!
I can't even begin to describe how I feel either, I am no longer super tired during the day (unless I have been up all night the night before blogging or working lol), I have energy, my body and mind feel AMAZING!!! It is just completely unreal!!
I of course have also been with the business now for 2 months, and anyone who knows anything about the home based business industry knows that it takes quite a bit of work to build a business, and a lot of your success comes with building a team, and of course the best way to build a team is to get in early lol.
Well I am reaping all the rewards. My second commission check for ONE month was $409!! I also have received several bonuses for bringing on new team members and a $100 bonus for becoming a Silver Ambassador! I have been working my butt off online and off for the last 5 years, I have been with other business, still with another business ( can't give up my scentsy) and never gotten a check like that. And to some that might not seem like a whole lot but for 2 months in, in this industry it really is, especially when you don't even make that much in a month at your day job ( which I really don't).
So this company has really changed my life all the way around. I am one of the biggest skeptics you will ever meet in your life. I have a hard time believing that anything works either for weight loss and health or financial things, but this company has proven me wrong. I know there are hundreds of others out there just like me too, either struggling with weight and health or finances and I strongly urge everyone to take a look at this If it can change my life, it can change your too.
Take a look at my website http://whydrinkpink.com and tell me what you think! Do you know anyone who struggles with weight loss or health issues, do you know anyone who needs or would like to make extra money? Send them my way and let me help them change their life the way my friend helped me change mine!!

What do you think? A non-partisan fix!

I received this in an email today--I sent it on to 10 of my friends and now I am posting it here--please feel free to copy/paste this--spread the word!!

What do you think?

I am sending this email to you in hopes you will keep it going and keep it clean. I hope you all read it all the way through. You will be glad you did.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple!

The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they leave office.

2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.
It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote itself a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12.
The American people did not enter into these contracts with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people this will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Maybe it is time.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!!

Shampoo Alert (cute and wishful thinking!)

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Another great one from yet another friend of mine--I just received this via email--oh I how I wish!!!!

Subject: SHAMPOO ALERT!!

SHAMPOO ALERT!!

As I was shampooing my hair in the shower this morning, I took time to read the bottle. I am in shock! The shampoo I use that runs down my entire body says "for extra volume and body!" Now I understand why I am so "full-figured!" I am going to start using "Dawn" dish soap... it says on the label "dissolves fat that is otherwise difficult to remove." It pays to read the warning labels!

Keep in touch with me for the BEST is yet to be...

Been a while---

I know it has been a while since I actually sat down and wrote something--I still miss Gremlin horribly and work has been absolutely crazy and my Mom keeps getting sick-then better then sick so I have been running her to the doctor---

I got a call yesterday evening which almost made me laugh--almost---I believe I've mentioned that I hate what I do (bookkeeping)--well an accountant I worked for for many years called me and said his practice is getting better again and do I have anytime to give him--Actually I don't--maybe sporadically--and like I told him I really don't want to work weekends anymore if I can possibly help it--he is really a very nice guy and I wouldn't mind helping him---BUT the client he needs help with--is a totally different story---talk about messed up books and almost TOTALLY MANUAL---it virtually took me days to finish one month up--there is something to be said for computers and computerized bookkeeping systems (like Quickbooks!)--NO WAY I ever want to see that set of books again!! A couple of others have called as well (old clients)--and I keep saying No thank you--very politely!! I now work 3 days a week as an employee (bookkeeper) in a company--still do some free lance--but hey--I will be 61 in September--give me a break! Bad enough with this economy I will never be able to retire--how about semi-retire!!! And here is a concept---how about me being able to actually go away for a weekend--not that I probably will--well I might be going to see an old friend for a weekend in Sept--

I am also sitting here trying to dream up a new giveaway--and easy one--my brain is pretty tired from all the work I've had to do lately and can't even pick a book to giveaway next lol!! (I WILL FIGURE THAT ONE OUT PRETTY SOON!!) Do any of you have any suggestions for an easy giveaway---$25.00 for ???????---if you have any please write them in the comment section!!!! And I will keep thinking------

Just gotta tell ya what happened today-----don't laugh too hard!!!

I got up this morning and didn't really feel like going to work--but that is nothing new so I got myself moving--I have a client I go to see once about every three months in NYC and today was the day-----Now I had heard a month ago I think it was that they had taken away the Third Avenue Bridge and it was being towed down the Hudson to somewhere in New Jersey---(yes you read that correctly--they took down and towed a bridge-only in NYC!!) Well I decided not to take any chances, drove down the Major Deegan--no real traffic (that should have told me something right there!!)--I get off at the Madison Avenue Bridge--I follow the signs to Manhattan--I go over the bridge--then I proceeded to turn left instead of right!!!!
Okay--I saw an entrance to Central Park--figured it would take me to the East side of town--I ended up driving a very big circle!! (beautiful drive by the way--)OOPs--still on the west side----drive a little more see a sign for Broadway-hum--take it--see Columbus Circle--now we are getting somewhere (all the Horse Drawn carriages were out and about)--I managed to circumvent Columbus Circle and get onto a street that would take me to where I wanted to go!!! Of course I ended up on Madison Avenue--stop and stop traffic all the way--hum--gotta get to 3rd Ave--turn--now I really know where I am-(I'm on Park Ave but the wrong side)--but do I remember where the parking lot is-HA--took a couple of turns around a couple of blocks--stop and stop traffic everywhere!!---Pulled into the parking lot and took a DEEP BREATH---worked---get my car---now no problem I know how to get home--what I wasn't counting on was that there were detour signs for the Third Avenue Bridge (now remember that bridge has been towed away) which took me back to the Madison Avenue Bridge through one of the worst parts of the city!! I made it over the bridge---only to hit a MAJOR traffic jam on the Deegan---Let's just say--I am VERY happy to be home again and doubly grateful I don't have to drive down there all that often!!

Gremlin is now with his brothers and sisters

Tuesday, July 5, 2011

I hadn't said anything but Gremlin had had a stroke about a week ago--It could have been caused by failing kidneys according to the vet I took him to this morning--My poor little man could no longer jump-he would try and then fall on his side-he could barely walk--he dragged his two hind legs behind him. He would meow for help--but he was not in pain--he was barely eating or drinking--but then I didn't want it getting so bad that he was in pain--I did the same for my three dogs before him---------
I will not be getting another animal-I truly don't think I could take this heartbreak again--all that is keeping me going is knowing that the 4 of them are waiting for me-somewhere over the rainbow--

Rest in peace my little guy

The Butterfly's Daughter by Mary Alice Monroe

Monday, July 4, 2011

I don't often find a book that I feel compelled to write about--this is one such book. I actually won this in a giveaway a while back and didn't think I would like it--well I didn't like it--I LOVED it!! I thought it would be a Young Adult book-which it is kind of--and I usually shy away from these--I am so very glad I read it!! From the inside cover
"Life is more about the journey then the destination"

"With a touch as gentle and as beautiful as the butterflies she celebrates, New York Times bestselling author Mary Alice Monroe delivers a new powerful and compelling novel of self-discovery that mirrors an awe inspiring event in nature, as four very different women embark on a transformational journey across the United States to Mexico."

This book touched a place in my heart that very few others have--I truly recommend that you go out and buy this book--

I will probably have a giveaway for this one eventually--but I think I want to read it again---

Happy and SAFE Fourth of July!!

Well, this is a one in a thousand for me---I actually have the whole day off--that makes three whole days I did not have to work!!!! Being partially freelance has its drawbacks---but not this year!! this year I can stay in my apartment with Gremlin and just relax--and I plan to do just that! I have never been a fan of fireworks--I know I know--but really the noise hurts my ears--and I do not venture outside after dark cause where I live there are illegal fire crackers--and one year some kid threw one right at my car as I was driving past--another year I was driving down in NYC and those flashing, exploding lights kept passing right in front of my windshield---uh--sorry--not for me---I can actually see some of the fireworks right from my window (I live on the 7th floor)--and hear them perfectly thank you very much!
I do however sit here and mull over the real meaning of Independence Day--the Boston Tea Party (no taxation without representation--uh I think we may have that again-at least for the majority of us) And then I think of the Statue of Liberty that stands in the NY-NJ Harbor (depends whether you are from NY or NJ as to which harbor you think it is-for me it is the NY Harbor!) "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free...." Guess that doesn't mean so much anymore--but hey--we are now the country of the tired and the poor--good jobs far and few between--people having to count every penny they make--What would it take to get America back--vote out every single politician--that would work for a while I guess--I think I'll go cuddle with Gremlin for a while--and maybe read a book--and dream of better days ahead for America (the land that I LOVE) and all it's inhabitants--

I think cuddling is a good idea--and I REALLY don't like those LOUD BANGS!!

What do all of you think----please respond--consider this a poll lol!! I could put up a giveaway for each book that would last 1 or 2 weeks (need input here as well!!) And I would keep putting them up until all these great books have found new homes--(I will pay for the postage to have them sent to you). And I think I will make this real easy---sign up for GFC, Facebook, Twitter, or email--of course if you are already following me just write that in the comment section--(along with your email address!!)--
SO--please come on in and tell me what I should do--yes or no--would you like this?

The Most Serious Virus Around... Please Forward (a FUN Post)

Friday, July 1, 2011

Marie from one of the groups I belong to sent this--I Just HAD to share with not just 6 friends--but with all of you as well!!!

A virus is going around called 'housework'. If you feel a need to start housework, stop immediately.

This virus wipes out your social life and 'me time'.

If you should come in contact with housework go straight to the nearest store and buy the only know antidote which is called 'chocolate'.

Please forward this warning immediately to at least 6 friends. If you realize you do not have 6 friends you are already infected.
