Scentsy Review and Giveaway!! Ends 04/20

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED
THE WINNER IS.....
#20 THE COUPON JUNKIE!!
The story of Scentsy is the story of how a simple idea—offer a safe, wickless alternative to scented candles through home parties—grew into one of the most successful companies the direct selling industry has ever seen.

Since establishing its direct selling model in July 2004, Scentsy has experienced phenomenal growth in both revenue and the number of Consultants. Scentsy began 2011 with 87,428 Consultants, 735 employees, and nearly 500,000 square feet of office and warehouse space—its message continues to spread at a rate that far exceeds industry norms.

Company owners Orville and Heidi Thompson credit this success to the three-point business strategy that drives everything Scentsy does: Simplicity, Authenticity, and Generosity. To the Thompsons, Generosity means "contributing more than you take," and their commitment to build the company around that philosophy has produced remarkable results.

Review:
I have purchased many products from Sheri and wanted to help her spread the word about her business by sharing my thoughts.

Scentsy has the most amazing products. They are safe and non toxic which is a big plus especially for those who have children and pets in their home. Scentsy offers "cause" warmers where they give 100% of the net profits from the sale of those warmers back to the cause they support.

One of my favorite items are the Travel Tins. I usually have one on my computer shelf! There are so many ways to use these. You can use them in lockers, cars, closets, dresser drawers, laundry baskets and more. What a great way to keep all your rooms and places smelling great!

There is something for everyone. From college warmers and military warmers, a complete mens line of scents and don't forget the nursery warmers and Scentsy Buddies for the little ones as well!

Sheri Currently has a fundraiser going on over on her site for Yard Signs Against Child Abuse. If you decide to place an order please use that link and Sheri will be sending special thank you's to all who place an order on that fundraiser.

"All the Queen's Players" by Jane Feather

Sunday, March 27, 2011

To say this book disturbed me and I had to put it down several times in order to get some of the images out of my head--does not mean it is not worth reading. It definitely is!! Jane Feather remains one of my favorite authors--even though I fear I may have nightmares from time to time about this book. There is a summary at the back of the book which will not give away any of the various plots in this book. I am going to quote it verbatim--

Readers Club Guide For
All the Queen's Players
by Jane Feather

Summary

Rosamund Walsingham is not your average sixteenth-century lady. Plucked from her simple country home by her conniving cousin, the secretary of state Sir Francis Waqlsingham, Rosamund is sent to London to spy on Queen Elizabeth's court. Francis asks her to gather information by keeping a sketchbook and diary of everything she observes and overhears in the queen's private chambers. Her work at the court leads to an unexpected romance with a young playwrite and courtier, Will Creighton.

In the throes of romance, Rosamund's affair is discovered, and she is banished from Elizabeth's court, but Francis beleives Rosamund can be of use to his cause of entrapping Mary, Queen of Scots, who is suspected of planning a conspiracy to assassinate Elizabeth and overtake the throne. But distance cannot shake Rosamund's feelings for Will, and serving Queen Mary teaches Rosamund what it means to be loyal and selfless even in the face of ruthlessness.

An Award---for ME!!!!

She Likes Me--She really Likes Me!!!

I woke up this morning to the astonishing news that I was chosen for the Stylish Blogger award by Brandy of Newly Crunchy Mama of 3

I am in shock to say the least--I never expected this and I am oh so grateful!! Now according to the rules I am supposed to tell you 7 things about myself:
Here are the rules:

To accept this award the recipients are asked to do a few things:

1. Thank and link back to the person who gave you this award.
2. Share 7 things about yourself
4. Award 10-15 blogs you feel deserve the award
5.Contact these bloggers and let them know about the award

Now here is the hard part:

7 Things about Michele:

1. I am essentially a loner.

2. I absolutely LOVE animals and end up owned by them. (I think my readers might have quessed this one already!)

3. I enjoy talking and learning about new people and I have this tendency to try and help everyone all the time--whether online or off.

5. I am old enough to know better (okay I am 60) but love teasing and flirting and just having fun.

6. I am a reader--give me a book and I might disappear for a couple of hours or days.

7. I am virtually unafraid to face this world--which sometimes has gotten me into predicaments--but I always manage to somehow come out okay!!!

I will now give this award to the following bloggers who really are great in my humble opinion!! (in alpha order!)

1. Grandma Sez So

"Witch & Wizard" by James Patterson & Gabrielle Charbonnet

Hum--well, I did enjoy this book though it seemed to me to be geared to the teen and young adult crowd. I enjoyed reading the different steps it took for the heroine and hero to fully realize their potential and how to control it. Some of it quite funny! Some of it is rather disturbing when you start to think it could happen here at any time. I got through it in a couple of hours give or take a phone call and Gremlin needing petting. It definitely grabbed my attention. But the ending left me a little annoyed and flat---yes, there will be more in this series, and I reading junkie that I am will probably read them LOL.
Next on my list---"All the Queen's Players" by Jane Feather-another of my very favorite writers!!

It kinda reminded me of what is going on today with our society--and where that can lead. I don't want to say too much here or I'll give away the plot. Was this written to be a movie does anyone know? Or is it already?

Hugh Mothers Day Give Away

Sunday, March 20, 2011

Hi all--

I haven't done a give away on my own blog for a while now (I am sponsering them on others blogs!) However I have decided in honor of Mother's Day I will be giving away a LARGE basket full of Eclipse Spa products--so keep your eyes open---it will be coming soon

AND I may just do a second one as well------------

I made it to the Bookstore!!! (and Read GoodNight, Tweetheart last night)

I actually made it to Barnes & Noble yesterday--construction made the trip there a bit longer then usual--but I was bound and determined--so I sat in traffic and made it--I think I found the last parking space in a very large lot!! I think EVERYBODY was out--it was the first springlike day-and I didn't even wear a jacket (though I probably should have) However never did make it to the beauty parlor--maybe next weekend---
Now on to the book---
GoodNight Tweetheart by Teresa Meideiros is unusual. It is almost entirely the tweet conversation between two people who meet online--We all wonder if the people we "talk" to online are who they say they are and Abbey is no different. An author with a really big writers block she is sent to Twitter by her publicist--She meets Mark almost immediately who tells her he is a professor on sabatical--I don't want to give away the entire book--and especially not the ending--Although admittedly I got bored every once in a while reading the tweets--this is a fast read and well worth it!!
Teresa Medeiros is still one of my favorite authors--and will be looking forward to her next historical romance book.
PS: Gremlin was trying to get me to put down the book the entire time I was reading it--he wanted to get petted by BOTH hands!!!

Good Morning Everyone

Saturday, March 19, 2011

Even though it is Saturday Gremlin decided that I was supposed to get up at 5:30 AM!! He simply let his long whiskers tickle my face-I'm a very light sleeper--then put his head under my hand so it would automatically pet him. Every once in a while he would get real close to my face and look intensly into my eyes to make absolutely certain they were still open--then the meowing started--I finally just got up LOL. Well, I am almost fully awake now and HE is hiding out in the living room---------Gremlin is very very lucky that I love him to pieces------------
I think I will take it easy this weekend---maybe go get my hair dyed (it is almost toally white UGH)--and trimmed--it is actually to the middle of my back--then Barnes & Noble--then give myself a semi spa day at home--facial, relaxing hot bath with my favorite bath bombs--hum--sounds like a plan!!
But just now I'd better go get a second cup of coffee--and attempt to wake up!!!

T.G.I.F.

Friday, March 18, 2011

That about says it all!! T.G.I.F.---I am so very glad this is the last workday for me for the week--I think I am going to hibernate in my apartment with Gremlin--am feeling very anti-social at the moment (that will change as soon as I walk out of work and begin the weekend!) I do have to find a tax I did for someone last year and have no idea where I put them--but since the government has decreed that I must spend a small fortune to do 5 or 6 peoples taxes this year (which I simply won't do) the new accountant who will be doing his taxes is insisting on last years tax or he won't do this years!! And of course the person can't find last years tax LOL--Mind you--this is one of the easiest taxes in the world to do--used to take me oh 5-10 minutes--it took longer to print!!! As usual the government is picking on the most vulnerable among us--I really wonder how many taxes won't be done this year because people simply can't afford to get them done (I used to charge a whopping 50.00)--or will try to do them themselves on Turbo Tax and will end up getting audited because they really don't understand what they are doing. Maybe it is time to go to a flat tax------
Gremlin is in my living room meowing for attention---so I'd better go attend to his higness!! And get ready for work!!

At least it is not snow!!

It is raining hard out there again today--but I have decided to look on the bright side--it is not snow!! I do have to drive down to NYC today and hope that no flooding occurs like did last week--I simply have to get to this client today and finish up his year--my umbrella is in my car--oh well--I'd almost consider taking the train and subway except I have trouble breathing down in that subway and a lot of times the stairs to get up to the street--well you end up walking through a very large and deep puddle--so drive I will!! And arrive at my clients slightly wet-----Gremlin is meowing me to death this morning--he is getting a head start on trying to convince me to stay home!! Sorry fella---I gotta do what I gotta do--and besides how does he think he gets his food? I remind him of this daily--that in order for him to eat what he wants to eat--I have to work!!!!!! He says he does not beleive me----I am not going to say anything about Japan exept--Pray for those people and any other living thing that lives there--

Birds in Japan?

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

I'm sitting here remembering 9/11--and the one thing I remembered most was going down there (I used to work near the Twin Towers) after and seeing NO BIRDS--for months and months--there were no birds--and beleive me there are always birds in NYC!! I knew then that no matter what was being told to us about the air quality--it could not be good--there were no birds!! There were still some birds where I live (in lower Westchester County) and they came back in force kinda quickly--it took many months for the birds to return to that area of NYC!! I knew we were finally out of the woods--you see birds can fly away from danger and they do!! Their respiratory systems also react faster then ours do--thus bringing canaries into mines--if the canary died--the humans knew to get the heck out of that mine!!
I can hear all the birds chirping good morning to each other right now and I am wondering if there are any birds where the radioactive debris is being scattered by the winds (literally) and how far those winds will take it--and in what direction. I'd advise the people to watch the birds and to go to where there are some!!

Animals are NOT Dumb!!

Monday, March 14, 2011

I've been kinda watching what is happening in Japan--like that earthquake slightly tilted the earth's axis and now parts of Japan are closer to the United States and they still haven't quite figured out what is going on with their nuclear power plants---but there is actually some really good news for all of us animal lover's. I was just telling Gremlin about it and his reaction was--"Cat's don't like loud unexplained noises and they really really don't like taking baths" so even though everyone seemed to think the 100 human residents and 1000's of cat residents of Cat's Island (Tashirojima) had perished --it seems like they made it!!! From what I've been reading on some cat blogs is that the human's and cat's all went to the highest peak on the island? Who started the mad dash? My bet is on the cat's!! Most of the humans on that island are 60+ years old!! It is a well known fact that animals can sense trouble long before we do--luckily the humans on that island knew this and followed--only problem now is getting human and cat food to them--buildings were destroyed and to get there in normal times you would have had to take a ferry---but with all else going on--if you want to read more on this google Tashirojima news on and look for the cat blogs!!!! Gremlin is glad that they didn't get wet--and hopes food gets to them soon or the cat's will have to fish for their supper and possibly for the human's suppers as well!!!

The earth is in a normal cycle

Sunday, March 13, 2011

As anyone who really knows me will tell you--I have been saying that this old earth of ours in in a 500 or so year cycle for some time now--unfortunately none of us were around to see it the last time (or fortunately) so everyone is running around saying why is this happening, can't we do something to stop the devastation--No--no amount of politians promising--no amount of the army corp of engineers building can stop the force of Mother Nature at her worst (and this may not be the worst it can get). Japan has known for like forever that they are on one of the plates that are always moving back and forth which causes earthquakes--tsunami's are caused by earthquakes--the bigger the earthquake-the bigger and more dangerous the tsunami. Hawaii--didn't get hit with the tsunami but as I was just reading they have been experiencing major volcanic eruptions (which created those islands to begin with-)-New Jersey thought they could build houses on floodplains-(Florida built them on swamps)-well-just read that after how many years the government is going to try to buy back 800 or so houses and turn it back into wetlands!! This may be the only intelligent thing a government has tried to do in my lifetime--Hey--when rivers overflow their banks they flow over onto FLOODPLAINS--Duh? Only humans could think they could outsmart Mama--As for those Nuclear Power Plants that are failing in Japan--understand I am a little prejudiced here--I never wanted them built anywhere EVER--when a tsunami comes racing in at 300 miles per hour-------------------------I really think it is time to start thinking about Wind and Solar energy SERIOUSLY
Okay--that's it--I've said my peace--and my prayers go out to all the people all over the world who are experiencing manmade and natural disasters.
OH--one more thought--instead of trying to get rid of unions to save money--why don't the upper echelon of state government start paying for their own health care and take a reduction in pay and less in pension. (The Fed Congree & Senate should do the same)seems to me that would be a HUGH SAVINGS of taxpayer money and help balance the budgets!
Off my soapbox--going back to read "A Dangerous Love" by Beatrice Small for the fouth time!! I really do reccommend this book!!

I think I did everything I planned on today

I bought Gremlin's food (he will only eat Whiska's in the litlle white tray and there are not too many places that sell that) I bought him a new Wheat Grass plant to let him know I still really do love him--he doubts me sometimes--and I went and did a little shopping for myself--So now I am munching down on Irish Soda Bread smothered in Kerry Butter!!! There was a special in the A&P---get a coupon for 1.00 off the Kerry Butter and get the Irish Soda Bread for FREE--never had Kerry Butter before--it is REALLY delicious--2.99 total. Now I am sitting at my computer contemplateing that I lost an hour of sleep---but the good news is---Spring is right around the corner now--I love to see the Forsythia in bloom along the highways and the little wildflowers popping up all over--and the Tulips!! And very soon now I won't have to wear my heavy winter jacket YEAH!!!!! Gremlin is sitting on the windowsill more and more often now--sticking his nosy nose out the only window I have cracked open for him--and being on the 7th floor has its advantages--the birds fly right by my window and keep Gremlin occupied!!
Well--that's about it for now--

I did them--mostly

Saturday, March 12, 2011

Well--after I got home from work today I decided to bite the bullet--I proceeded to do my taxes--of course first I had to find all the stuff that I've been hiding from myself (you know little things like 1099's, w-2's)-unfortunately found it all---or at least I think I did. Went on to Turbo Tax which I haven't used in like forever and-------well lets just say I probably won't be submitting those taxes until maybe 3 days before they are due---you guessed it--I owe--OUCH--I still have to double check everything--like maybe I forgot a couple of deductions? But not tonight and not tomorrow!! One thing I do not like about Turbo Tax online----you can not see your forms until you pay them (I paid them I paid them-but not until I figured out I would not be allowed to see my forms!!)--which really isn't good--and they don't tell you this--they kinda let you figure it all out by yourself!! Of course this is the first time I've ever done this on line--I am much more used to buying a program-installing it on my computer--then doing the tax. Guess I'd better save this stuff to my hard drive so I can print it out at some point in the far far future---

Eclipse Spa--Home Pampering for Less!!

I really love these products--they leave my skin so soft and silky but not greasy!! And the prices are extremely affordable!!
Just yesterday I took a bath and threw in one of the grapefruit bath bombs--turns the water slightly pink and smells heavenly--then I took the the sugar scrub (pumpkin-unfortunately she only makes this once a year!!) and rubbed it into my legs and upper arms which tend to get bumpy cause they dry out so quickly--bumps all but disappeared!! I ran out of the White Tea and Ginger Lotion so I used the Lavender Lotion----heavenly--I felt so much calmer after pampering myself a bit--and beleive me I am extremely tense at this time of year!!

Sheri really does such great work on these flyers for me!!! To go and buy some of these products for yourself or just to browse please go to
www.eclipsespa.com/micheleb
And remember--if you would like to try before you buy--I will send you samples (lotion, sugar scrub, bath salts)-just email me at MikiHope1@Yahoo.com and put free samples in the reference line!!
Add your name and address and I will get them out to you as soon as possible!!

Adult Truths--good for a couple of chuckles!!

Friday, March 11, 2011

Robyn Coleman posted this on a group I belong to--I have only included here the ones I really like (all of them)!!!

ADULT TRUTHS

1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die. (for certain!!!)

2. Nothing "Bleep" more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet? (Inquiring minds would really like to know the answer to this one!!)

6. Was learning cursive really necessary? YUP

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood. (Well-as long as I don't include today!)

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day. (OH I KNOW this one WELL)

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again. (Blue Ray? Not up to that yet)

13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to. (Yeah why does it have to scare us like that!)

14. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call. (not me--I can't seem to see those numbers that pop up)

15. I think the freezer deserves a light as well. (HUH?)

16. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.

17. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

18. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger. (chocolate cupcakes calling my name!!)

19. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?

20. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters! (Try the approach to the George Washington Bridge Southbound if you really want to see this happening!!)

21. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

22. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

23. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time.

24. The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.

Wouldn't it be nice

Monday, March 7, 2011

It is 6:30 in the morning here and I'm thinking how nice it would be if I could really get my internet business going and NOT have to get dressed and go to work!! At 8:30 last night (SUNDAY) I received a call from one of the clients I see maybe 4 or 5 times a year asking when I could cme up there and finish off their books so they could get them to their accountant so he could send in their taxes---I originally told her next Wednesday--but nope--she wants to give the books in on Monday--could I come in on Saturday? I said yes--so this week I work 6 days---------her accountant will probably send in for an extension anyway--most of them do--especially when you bring stuff in Mid March!!! (A word to the wise--if you use a CPA and don't want to be put on extension--get them in early!!)Gremlin really got nervous when I went into my pocketbook for my calender!! He let out this very soft meow with a question in it--as if to say--what are you doing--he sat by my chair with his back turned to me until I got into bed--then he relaxed a bit!! Meanwhile I am still waiting for another client to send me his stuff so I can input it and send it to his accountant--he called me about 4 weeks ago------and how many bets he will start crying about how he does not want his accountant to put him on extention and can I do them yesteray-- I am still waiting!! And I have still not started my own taxes-------------

Tax Time - Possibly the most dreaded time of the year!!

Good morning all!!

Taxes have been on my mind lately-probably because I haven't done mine yet!! But I will--It is the time of the year when people seem to realize that the only person in the office who can possibly answer sticky questions about taxes is moi---If I don't know the answer I will look it up--if I can't find the answer--I tell them to ask their accountant. Unfortunately, and I do mean unfortunately, these days most of us little guys are using tax software and doing it on our own. Now if you actually know what you are doing or you only have a w-2 and maybe some interest--sure--go do it--BUT if you have other stuff--like unemployment--which is taxable by the way--(but not always by the states-each state is different) then go get some help. As an example--a guy walked into my office the other day and said he thought maybe the program he was using was corrupt or something--after a bit of gentle coaxing it turns out that he had about 1/2 a year of unemployment-(he didn't have them withhold fed tax which he could have and should have during that period of time)--well, of course he owes money!! There was nothing wrong with the program--I told him the best way to handle it--(complete the tax and send in what he could--the government would bill him the rest with interest and he could them make a repayment plan with them). That is always your best bet if you owe but can't pay it all at once!!
Meanwhile, back at the old homestead--Yes I used to do taxes for about 5 or 6 of my friends--but because of a new law I am no longer going to be able to do them--The federal government wants 80.00 to issue me a special ID number (I used to be able to use my soc sec number) and NYS wants approx 45.00 for a similar number!! Add that to the fact that I would have to buy a professional tax software (not turbotax!!) and then pay for each return I do--and I only ever charged 50.00 for a tax---I had to make the hard decision to tell my friends--no way--no more. So this year I will buy turbo tax and just do my own---my biggest problem is--how the heck do I tell my Mom that I can not do HER taxes anymore? Somehow I think I will find a way to do hers!!

GREMLIN is Driving me CRAZY

Friday, March 4, 2011

And I think he is doing it on purpose!! I read somewhere that cats tend to manipulate women----well he is sure trying to manipulate me lately!! Or RE-TRAIN. I keep trying to tell the people in NJ that I have to get home before dark or Gremlin starts acting up--but do they beleive me--NO--so twice this week I got home LATE and all Gremlin has been doing is meowing until I do what he wants--then goes and hides from me!! Right now he is sulking in the dining room--------he woke me up at 5 am mind you by meowing loudly right in my ear and when I went to try and pet him he kept moving so I nearly fell out of bed--and now he is patiently waiting till I get dressed and go to put my coat on to start his meowing schenanigans again!!!
Well--unbeknowst to him--I will be home before dark today and I probably will not go out this weekend at all (well maybe for an hour or so LOL)--and if I am REAL LUCKY--this mood of his will pass and he will become the sweet little kitty he normally is----

Thank Heavens yesterday is over and today is here!!

Thursday, March 3, 2011

I think I mentioned that I would be on a cattlecar yesterday (NYC Subway)--well-that is what it was!! There was no room on the platform for people to even stand --I was stuck on the stairs leading down for about 5 minutes--couldn't even get near the entrance to a train for an additional 10 Minutes-once I finally squashed myself inside--I then had to get off at the correct stop--no easy feat when you have to push through immobile objects (other passengers)--but I did manage--just about!!! Needless to say I took the bus back to Grand Central Station when I was finished--could not face another Subway ride--Actually I had never seen it THAT bad before and I think I heard someone mentioning that there was some kind of trouble with a couple of the trains---And of course I'm totally congested today--happens every time I go down there--The good news is today I get in my CAR and drive to work!!! Soooooo nuch easier even if it does take me 1 1/2 hours each way.
Meanwhile--back at the ranch--Gremlin is being absolutely annoying--he just wants my attention and keeps meowing until I get off the computer!! This is ever since I got home late the other night because I was working with the accountant--Hope he calms down soon (Gremlin)!!!
HAGD all--I am most certainly going to try!!
